District 3-3A girl’s basketball had its all-district team dominated by regular season and tournament winner Pecos, but no doubt the Panthers would have liked to win a state championship as their boys did.

Under Ron Drake, the district Coach of the Year, Pecos finished at 20-8 overall, 9-0 in district, and had its 8-game win streak snapped when it lost at home to Loving in the state tournament first round.

The Panthers will lose seniors Megan Armijo, Jamie Varela, and Brooke Gallegos, who joined sophomore teammate Cassie Muller, district Player of the Year, on the first team.

Completing the 12-player first team were Raton seniors Estrella Vargas and Sofia Maddaleni, and sophomore Andie Ortega; Tierra Encantada juniors Yasmine Torres and Jackie Corond; Academy of Technology and The Classics juniors Felicity Sealy and Ashley Zapata, and Desert Academy sophomore Savannah Scarborough.

On the second team for Pecos was senior Miquela Ortiz and junior Reyna Perez, Raton junior Sydni Silva, Tierra Encantada junior Brianna Duran, ATC junior Reina Rodriguez, and Desert Academy junior Natalie Longmire-Kullis.

Raton finished at 14-13 overall, 7-3 in district. Tierra Encantada was all even at 15-15 overall and 5-5 in district, while ATC was 7-16 and 2-7, and Desert Academy, with only seven on the roster, was 2-13 overall and winless in eight district starts.
