Proposed House Bill to Revise the Affordable Care Act A May Keep Key Aspects in Place

BeWellnm, New Mexico’s Health Insurance Exchange, today announced the direction of the Affordable Care Act based on the newly introduced House Republican bill.

Based on a Republican-sponsored House Bill to ‘repeal and replace’ the Affordable Care Act, introduced on March 6, 2017, the new legislation indicates several proposals that could potentially be favorable for beWellnm and New Mexicans.

Cheryl Gardner, CEO at beWellnm shared that there are indications that the proposed legislation will continue key aspects of the Affordable Care Act, including: Continuing pre-existing condition coverage as well as coverage for dependents up to age 26.

Additionally:
States will have opportunity and sufficient funding to stabilize their markets in an attempt to lower insurance premiums
There is a focus on continuity of health as well as continuity of health coverage
The legislation appears to encourage a wider array of healthcare plan design options in an effort to allow individuals and families to find a plan that best fits their needs

“Our New Mexico team understands the unique needs being faced by our residents,” says Gardner. “We are very interested in continuing our conversations with members of Congress and the new Administration to share our expertise on the health issues facing our state.”

“BeWellnm is dedicated to New Mexicans’ well-being through continued free in-person assistance at one of the Enrollment Assistance Centers throughout the state, over the phone, and online,” added Gardner.
