Del Norte Credit Union gives back in multiple ways during National Credit Union Youth Month

National Credit Union Month focuses on the importance of educating young members to save and be financially responsible

By Del Norte Credit Union | April 12, 2017

SANTA FE, New Mexico, April 6, 2017— Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU), Northern New Mexico’s hometown financial cooperative, is conducting credit union-wide fundraisers during the month of April for community programs that support youth. DNCU’s mission is to improve lives in Northern New Mexico. Bowl For Kids’ Sake, United Way of Santa Fe County’s Kaune’s Kids and United Way of Northern New Mexico’s Community Action Fund highlight our youth and the monumental importance of their success in school and in life.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region, Bowl For Kids’ Sake, inspired DNCU staff to create a total of 10 five-member bowling teams for the competition scheduled for April 22, 2017 at Cities of Gold in Pojoaque. Employees’ goal is to raise $5,000 on top of the $500 corporate sponsorship that DNCU has already contributed. “It is truly inspiring to see how these employee-driven initiatives grow and expand to make a huge impact in our community—and we are proud that a third of DNCU’s employees are participating in the event,” says DNCU CEO/President Chuck Valenti. Each team member has a goal to raise $100 for the competition entry fee. As of today, DNCU employees have raised over $2,000.

In April and continuing through May, DNCU is fundraising for the United Way of Northern New Mexico’s Community Action Fund and the United Way of Santa Fe County’s Kaune’s Kids through activities in DNCU’s branches. Contributions may be made at DNCU branches in Santa Fe, Espanola, White Rock and Los Alamos. Both programs touch the lives of members and staff alike—and help support children and youth in Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Rio Arriba counties.

DNCU is also supporting The Food Depot’s Mobile Food Pantry program in Rio Arriba and Los Alamos Counties and has been supporting food distributions since October 2016. Hunger and food deserts are a continuing challenge in rural Northern New Mexico. This month we will bump up our continuing support in accordance with the number of Likes we receive through a Facebook campaign.

“These activities and organizations that DNCU supports remind us of our mission, vision and values. We appreciate the fact that our members are an active part of our community support. Plus, the fact that so many employees volunteer and are active in our communities is what is important to us as an organization,” says DNCU VP Marketing Kim Currie.
