Laura Zabel Executive Director of Springboard for the Arts, will present a lecture titled “A Two-Way Street: Economic Success for Artists and Communities.” She will help us look to the future in Santa Fe, discussing national trends regarding creative sector work and her nationally renowned organization’s focus on building vibrant communities through toolkits and trainings for artists and other creative professionals, creative place-making projects, and partnerships.

We are excited to announce Jamie Blosser, Executive Director of the Santa Fe Art Institute, will be in an engaging dialogue with Laura after her presentation, moderated by Cyndi Conn, Executive Director of Creative Santa Fe. Together, they will help us imagine a Santa Fe where art is a powerful and accessible tool for change.

Laura Zabel is a frequent speaker on arts and community development at convenings such as the Aspen Ideas Festival, Urban Land Institute and Americans for the Arts. She was a 2014 Bush Foundation Fellow, was named one of the 50 most influential people in the U.S. Nonprofit Arts, and received the 2012 Visionary Leader award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits.

Her organization, Springboard for the Arts, is an economic and community development organization for artists and by artists, based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Springboard for the Arts’ mission is to cultivate vibrant communities by connecting artists with the skills, information, and services they need to make a living and a life. Their work is about creating communities and artists that have a reciprocal relationship, where artists are key contributors to community issues and are visible and valued for the impact they create. They do this work by creating simple, practical solutions and systems to support artists. Those programs support their goal to help create a local culture movement.
