SANTA FE, NM – The Sustainable Santa Fe Commission, a volunteer citizen advisory commission charged with advising the city’s elected officials on sustainability-related programs, projects and policies, will be conducting community meetings to discuss and garner feedback from the public on the development of the city’s 25-year sustainability plan.

In November 2014, the City of Santa Fe established a goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040, and as a result, the commission is developing the plan with the primary goals of improving the health and wellness of the community, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. Areas of the plan’s focus include energy; transportation; water; climate; food security; natural environment; social equity; and others.

“Improving the lives of everyone in our community goes hand-in-hand with protecting our environment,” said Mayor Javier M. Gonzales. “Our 25-year sustainability plan is designed to serve the entire community, so public participation at the upcoming community meetings is very important, because we want feedback from everyone.”

The community meetings will be held on:

• Wednesday, May 3, 5:30-7:30pm at Genoveva Chavez Community Center (3221 Rodeo Road)
• Tuesday, May 9, 5:30-7:30pm at Hotel Santa Fe, Kiva Rooms (1501 Paseo De Peralta)
• Saturday, May 13, 1:00-3:00pm at Southside Library (6599 Jaguar Drive), co-hosted by EarthCare
• Saturday, May 20, 2:00-4:00pm at Chainbreaker Community Center (1515 Fifth Street), co-hosted by Chainbreaker Collective

Light food, childcare and bilingual services will be provided at each meeting. All citizens in the city and county are encouraged to attend.
