Catches of the week:
- Abiquiu Lake: Izzac Salazar, 3, of Santa Fe, caught his first fish on his very first fishing trip. He caught four walleyes and he was trolling Panther Martin spinners.
- Berrendo Creek: Isaiah Payne, 10, of Roswell, caught his first largemouth bass June 26 at the Red Bridge Open Gate project. He was using a 10-inch Texas rigged worm.
- Cimarron Gravel Pit Lakes: Thomas Newman, 9, of Gore, Virginia, caught a 19-inch rainbow trout June 21. He was using night crawlers.
- Cochiti Lake: Tomas Garcia of Albuquerque caught a 23-inch channel catfish June 22. He was using hotdogs.
- Conchas Lake: Mario Armendariz of Santa Fe caught a 5.2-pound largemouth bass June 25. He was using a green crankbait.
- Eagle Rock Lake: Diego Valdez, 7, of Mora, caught a 14-inch rainbow trout June 22. He was using PowerBait.
- Fenton Lake: Chase Bernal, 15, of Los Chavez, caught and released a 15-inch cutthroat trout June 25. He was using a size 12 parachute Adams.
- Morphy Reservoir: Joseph Valdez, 6, of Santa Fe, caught an 18-inch rainbow trout June 24. He was using PowerBait.
- Navajo Lake: Cory VerHaar, 10, of Farmington, caught and released a 19.25-inch, 5-pound largemouth bass June 21. He was using a tube in shallow water. Mike Kmatz of Elephant Butte caught and released a 4.7-pound smallmouth bass June 24. He was fishing up the Pine arm and using a 4-inch watermelon black fleck senko.
- Pecos River: Makay Tafoya, 4, of Ribera, caught a 25-inch rainbow trout with the help of her dad June 24. She was fishing near Villanueva with her Princess combo and using night crawlers.
- Red River: Joe Vallejos of Sandia Park caught and released a 4-pound rainbow trout June 21. He was using Silver Label Fire Bait.
- Seven Springs Brood Pond: Brooke Castillo, 7, and Bree Castillo, 4, caught a 20-inch rainbow trout June 24. They were using a Joe’s fly.
- Ute Lake: Dustin Stovall of Hereford, Texas caught and released a 5.46-pound largemouth bass June 25.
The following reports came in late but deserve a mention:
- Abiquiu Lake: Evelyn Narducci, 10, of Albuquerque, caught a 20-inch brown trout June 17. She was using a gold crank bait. Isaiah Torres, 5, of Albuquerque, caught a 14-inch walleye June 17. He was using a gold crank bait. Hannah Torres, 5, of Albuquerque, caught an 18-inch walleye June 17. She was using a crank bait.
- Bluewater Lake: Andreana Almanzar, 12, of Santa Fe, caught and released a 43-inch and a 38-inch tiger muskie June 17. She was using hotdogs.
- Conchas Lake: Samuel Burrows of Albuquerque, caught a 20-inch, 4.5-pound largemouth bass June 17. He was using an olive green plastic worm.
- Eagle Nest Lake: Samantha Weeks of Angel Fire caught a 22-inch, 3.89-pound rainbow trout June 18. She was using red, white and blue PowerBait.
- Fenton Lake: Joseph Jaramillo, Jr., 14, of Rio Rancho, caught a 19-inch rainbow trout June 18. He was using salmon peach PowerBait.
- Hopewell Lake: Juliana Warren, 4, of Albuquerque, caught a 19-inch rainbow trout June 17. She was fishing with her princess fishing combo and using PowerBait.

Northeast
Charette Lakes: Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. Fishing was fair using worms for perch.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports. Fishing pressure was light. Due to low water conditions, the boat ramp remains closed.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday was 17.2 cfs. Trout fishing was good using bead-head hares’ ear nymphs, orange stimulators, worms, salmon eggs and PowerBait. A few were also caught by anglers using spinners. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was good using Pistol Petes, Cimarron specials, orange stimulators, PowerBait, Fire Balls and night crawlers.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was fair to good using plastic worms, senkos, jigs, crawdads, curly tail grubs, crank baits, swim baits and jerk baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using tubes, leeches, minnows, grubs and crank baits for a mixed bag of white bass and walleye. Fishing was good using shrimp, liver and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Costilla Creek: Stream flow on Monday below Costilla Dam was 44.7 cfs. Fishing was good using parachute Adams and elk hair caddis for trout.
Cowles Ponds: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes and spinners for trout.
Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was good using elk hair caddis, parachute Adams, copper John Barrs, worms and salmon eggs.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, worms, Pistol Petes and Kastmasters for trout.
Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait from the bank and from anchored boats. Several trout and a few kokanee salmon were caught by anglers trolling with Christmas tree kokanee killers or double whammies combinations baited with corn, salmon eggs or PowerBait and Platte River specials. Fishing was fair to good using worms for perch. Fishing was fair using jerk baits, swim baits and large streamers for small northern pike. We had no other reports.
Gallinas River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Hopewell Lake: The lake is open for fishing following temporary closures during the Bonita Fire. Fishing was good using elk hair caddis, may flies, copper John Barrs, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. The dry flies were working best in the evening hours.
Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Trout fishing was good using Pistol Petes, spoons, wooly buggers, parachute Adams and PowerBait. The best reports are coming from anglers fishing the evening hours.
Los Pinos River: Fishing was good using with bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs and worms for rainbow and brown trout.
Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait and Silver Label salmon eggs for trout.
Morphy Lake: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, wooly buggers, spinners, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. H. Chico Gallegos of Las Vegas reported great fishing last Saturday. He caught his limit of trout including a 19-inch rainbow within 2 ½ hours. He was using salmon colored PowerBait.
Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 79.9 cfs. Fishing was very good using garlic and peach garlic salmon egg Fire Bait and Fire Balls, San Juan worms, stone flies, bead-head hares ears and elk hair caddis.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 179 cfs. Fishing was very good using Silver Label Fire Balls, PowerBait, night crawlers, spinners and wooly buggers for trout. Roger Maier of El Paso, Texas was fishing below the hatchery this past Wednesday and caught three nice rainbows ranging in size from 15 to 18 inches. He was using salmon eggs. Chris Shaffer reported the action as unfishable near Eagle Rock Lake, slow at the campgrounds and very good in town.
Red River City Ponds: Kids Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Pistol Petes and salmon eggs for trout. Adult pond is closed.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 968 cfs. Fishing on the upper river was slow to fair using spoons, poundmeisters, wooly buggers, San Juan worms and night crawlers. We had no other reports.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 131 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Mora: As of Monday, stream flow near Terrero was 18.3 cfs. Fishing was good using night crawlers and Fire Balls for trout.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 46 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Barbara River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was fair to good using wooly buggers, gold spoons, Fisher Chick spinners, PowerBait, worms and Fire Balls for trout. We had no other reports.
Shuree Ponds: Open for the season July 1.
Springer Lake: Fishing was fair using long A Bombers for small northern pike. Night fishing was good using shrimp and night crawlers for catfish.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs and salmon peach PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass was fair using senkos, tubes, salt craws and finesse worms. Fishing for walleye was slow with just a few caught by anglers using bottom bouncer night crawler rigs. Fishing for bluegill was very good using small grubs and worms under a bobber. Fishing was good using chicken liver, night crawlers and stink bait for catfish. Fishing for crappie and white bass was slow. The surface water temp was in the mid 70s.
Winsor Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was good using curly tail grubs, spinners, wooly buggers, tubes, jerk baits, crank baits and night crawlers for smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye was good for anglers using leeches, spinners, curly tail grubs and crank baits. Most of the walleye caught were at depths of 8 to 12 feet. Fishing was slow to fair using worms for perch. Fishing was slow to fair using Panther Martins, Fisher Chick spinners, PowerBait and Fire Balls for rainbow trout. We had no other reports.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 2,000 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice due to danger from falling trees.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 285 cfs and 298 cfs respectively. Trout fishing above El Vado was good using cicada patterns, Chernobyl ants and wooly buggers. Fishing below El Vado was good using wooly buggers, copper John Barrs, brassies, bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, night crawlers and PowerBait for rainbow and brown trout. Trout fishing below Abiquiu was slow. The flow has come down but the water was still quite murky. NEW SPECIAL TROUT WATER: The river from the USGS gauging station to the confluence of the Rio Nutrias is now catch and release only using single barbless hook artificial flies and lures.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, jerk baits, salt craws, tubes and jigs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using spinners and crank baits for white bass. Fishing was fair using shrimp, hotdogs and chicken liver for catfish. We had no other reports.
El Vado Lake: Fishing was good trolling with yellow Panther Martins and double whammies for a mixed bag of kokanee salmon and rainbow trout. Fishing was very good using Rooster Tails, Panther Martins, curly tail grubs and crank baits for smallmouth bass. The boat ramp at the north end of the lake has opened.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was fair for some and good for others using PowerBait, Fire Balls, meal worms, leeches, caddis imitations, copper John Barrs, parachute Adams, spoons and Pistol Petes for trout
Heron Lake: Fishing from boats was slow with just a few rainbow trout and an occasional kokanee salmon caught by anglers trolling yellow Panther Martins at about 18 feet. Bank fishing was sporadic as a few anglers caught limits of trout while others only picked up one or two. Anglers having the best luck were using PowerBait. We had no other reports.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 15 cfs. The heat has had a major effect on the stream fishing here this past week. We had reports of slow fishing on the Jemez, Rio Guadalupe, East Fork and the San Antonio. Fishing on the Cebolla was using elk hair caddis, small streamers, copper John Barrs, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Laguna del Campo: Fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes under a bubble, PowerBait and Kastmasters for trout.
Lake Farmington: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs and Pistol Petes for trout. We had no other reports.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was fair to good using minnows and small jigs for crappie. Fishing was good using Pop Rs, Ricos, Whopper Ploppers, tubes, finesse worms on drop shot rigs, crank baits, wooly buggers and spinners for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using jigs, swim baits, minnows, jerk baits and crank baits for northern pike. Fishing was fair to good trolling kokanee killers, double whammies and Arnies tipped with corn or PowerBait for kokanee salmon. A few rainbow and brown trout were caught by anglers using Panther Martins and PowerBait. We had no other reports.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. The lake was recently stocked. Check it out and let us know how you do.
San Juan River: Stream flow from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 4,290 cfs. The flow will continue to ramp down to an expected 500 cfs on July 5. The next releases are scheduled Friday, June 23 to 4,000 cfs and Monday, June 26 to 3,400 cfs. Trout fishing from drift boats was good using San Juan worms, egg patterns, bunny leeches, wooly buggers, large bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, orange and red annelids and small jigs.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Panther Martin spinners, Pistol Petes, meal worms and night crawlers for trout.
Tingley Beach: Fishing was slow for all species.
Trout Lakes: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and spinners for trout.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: Fishing was slow for all species.
Bear Canyon Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using beef liver and hotdogs for catfish. Fishing was slow to fair using tubes and creature baits for largemouth bass. We had no other reports.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, top water lures, curly tail grubs and minnows for white bass and an occasional walleye. Night fishing was fair to good using cut bait, chicken liver and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, spinners, jerk baits, minnows and grubs for white bass. Fishing was slow to fair using jigs, crankbaits and minnows for walleye. Fishing was slow to fair using top water lures, creature baits, crank baits, senkos, Ben rigs, jerk baits and tubes for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Night fishing was fair using cut bait, dead minnows and chicken liver for catfish. We had no other reports.
Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair using worms for bluegill. We had no other reports.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 43 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was fair to good using worms, senkos, baby brush hogs, tubes, crank baits and top water lures for largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using spoons, Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for trout. Fishing was fair using homemade dough bait, beef liver and night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.
Percha Dam: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rancho Grande Ponds: The U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program is sponsoring a Catfish Fishing Derby 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., July 4 with prizes awarded to adults and children. For more detailed information, contact the coordinator, Amanda Landrum at (575) 590-2307.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 2,610 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte and Caballo was fair to good using night crawlers, beef liver, chicken liver and cut bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Snow Lake: Fishing was very good using PowerBait, Pistol Petes and brown and gray hackle peacock nymphs. The road to the lake was reported as very rough and four-wheel drive was recommended.
Young Pond: Fishing was slow for all species.
Southeast
Alto Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few catfish and trout caught by anglers using night crawlers, liver and PowerBait. We had no other reports.
Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 1.75 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.
Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was slow with just a few catfish caught by anglers using liver and night crawlers.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using chicken liver and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. Fishing was fair to good using flukes, worms, senkos, deep diving crank baits, grubs and creature baits for largemouth bass and white bass.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using chicken liver, hotdogs and worms for catfish. We had no other reports.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, wooly buggers and spoons for trout. We had no other reports.
Eunice Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Greene Acres Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing for trout was slow. Fishing was fair using worms for bluegill. Fishing was fair using shrimp, hotdogs and crawdads for catfish. We had no other reports.
Jal Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Lake Van: Fishing was slow to fair using chicken liver, blood bait and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers and spinners for largemouth bass. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 1,500 cfs. We had no reports from anglers.
Perch Lake: Fishing was very good using worms for catfish. A few were also by anglers using chicken liver and hotdogs. We had no other reports.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 8.85 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. A water release began on June 16 and was expected to run for 15 days.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few bass and walleye caught by anglers using jigs, minnows and crank baits. We had no other reports. We had no other reports. A water release began on June 19 and was expected to run for 15 days.
