Santa Fe Public Schools Announces School Principal Appointments

Santa Fe, NM: Dr. Veronica C. Garcia, superintendent of schools, announces Pamela Hyde as the principal at Nina Otero Community School and Mariah Runyan as the interim principal at Capital High School.

Ms. Hyde previously worked in the financial services industry, but left to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.  Her first job as an educator was as a life skills teacher in Katy, Texas.  She pursued her masters of education at Dallas Baptist University while still a teacher and began her administrative career in Irving, Texas at a district with 35,000 plus students.  Most recently she was the assistant principal at Nina Otero Community School.

Ms. Hyde noted, “Nina Otero Community School is like home and I am thrilled to continue serving our community in my new role as principal.  This year marks the 4^th anniversary for our school. I hope the students, staff, and parents take a moment and look back at all we have accomplished!”

Dr. Garcia conveyed, “I have no doubt Ms. Hyde will continue to provide strong leadership and a commitment to service she exemplified in her tenure there. She will do a great job!”

Mariah Runyan has worked as an educator for the Santa Fe Public Schools for the past seventeen years, teaching at both Capshaw Middle School and Santa Fe High School. Most recently, she served as the associate principal for the past five years at Capital High School.  In 2007, she was awarded National Board Certification for Professional Teaching Standards for instruction in English Language Arts and recently achieved re-certification in 2017.  Since her initial certification, Mrs. Runyan has worked as a candidate support provider and national scorer for teachers pursuing their own National Board Certification, focusing on quality instruction, student needs, and accomplished teaching.  Continuing to advance her own learning, Mrs. Runyan earned her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership in 2009 from New Mexico Highlands University.

Reflecting on her transition to serve as interim principal of Capital High School, Mrs. Runyan shares, “Capital High School has become my family over the past five years, and I am excited about the opportunity to continue the amazing work we have begun as a community of teachers, students, and parents.  Working as a part of the Jaguar team has been one of the most professionally rewarding experiences I have had, and I am honored to continue to serve our community in this capacity.”

Dr. Garcia added, “Mariah Runyan has been an integral part of the Jaguar administrative team. With Mrs. Runyan at the helm, Capital High School will not skip a beat in their preparation for the next school year. I sincerely thank her for taking on the role of interim principal to ensure a smooth transition.”
