Two Seats Open on Veterans Advisory Board

The Veterans Advisory Board (VAB) was established by a resolution from Mayor Javier M. Gonzales in 2015 as a means to involved Santa Fe’s veterans directly in addressing the challenges and identifying opportunities for the veteran community in our community. It is now seeking candidates to fill two vacancies on the Board. Members are appointed by the mayor to work with and for veterans to address matters affecting veterans, propose solutions to alleviate the needs of local veterans and recognize the contributions local veterans have made.

The current board is focused on holding ground on the progress the City has made in ending veteran homelessness, as well as education, employment, community events, and emergency relief. Members may be a veteran or may include persons who have expertise in the areas of focus and are interest specifically in veteran issues. Applicants must live in Santa Fe County and there is no compensation. The board must include at least three veterans or family members of veterans at any given time.

Mayor Gonzales said, “Veterans know how to step up and serve, and with their help through the Veterans Advisory Board we’ve been able to end veteran homelessness in Santa Fe for good and honor, recognize and remember those who served better than ever before. I hope we’ll see high interest from the community in serving on an important and valuable citizen-led body.”

The VAB meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 3 PM to 5 PM at the City Railyard Offices, 500 Market Station, Suite 200 Santa Fe, New Mexico. The meetings are open to the public.
