David F. Setford, Executive Director of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society will give an illustrated talk that will propose a framework for the Mexican Modernist movement, beginning with the influence of Jose Guadalupe Posada and Gerardo Murillo (Dr. Atl).
David Setford was born in London to an English father and French mother (both artists), and trained as an art historian and a curator of nineteenth and twentieth century art, including Modernism. In all of his positions in America he has been required to learn about new collections – including Chinese Art, Pre-Columbian Art, Old Masters, American Art, Mexican Modernism, and English Ceramics. He is a respected senior museum professional who believes that great programs and exhibitions are the key to growing the museum and society family.
