Deadline for Qualifications is September 15, 2017

Santa Fe, NM—The City of Santa Fe is currently seeking qualified individuals for the ceremonial position of City Historian. The City Historian is responsible for the presentation of a lecture series, production of short articles, videos, podcasts or other educational resources, and provides information for and review of historical content for official City documents or publications.

The appointed City Historian will serve a 12-month term, during which time she or he will receive an honorarium of up to $10,000, including applicable taxes, to offset costs associated with the position. Individuals must submit a letter of interest, resume/curriculum vitae, and links to websites, publications, social media and/or video content by 5 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017.

Mayor Javier M. Gonzales said, “The community of Santa Fe has a long and meaningful history. Our most recent historian, Ana Pacheco, has helped build upon the foundation laid by Santa Fe’s first City Historian, Jose Garcia. Their work demonstrates the importance of sharing our historical legacy in a variety of creative and engaging ways, and ensuring we remember our collective past. As we continue to tackle some difficult conversations the historian’s importance can only grow.”

Councilwoman Renee Villarreal will be assisting in the review of qualifications “I look forward to a public, transparent process in order to ensure a committed, enthusiastic and qualified individual is recommended for the position of City Historian,” stated Villarreal.

Submittal requirements, selection process and more information about the City Historian position may be obtained on the City’s website at https://www.santafenm.gov/city_historian.
