Catches of the week
- Clayton Lake: Aaron Earle of Clayton caught a 6-pound channel catfish Aug. 5. He was using chicken liver.
- Cochiti Lake: Martin Perea, 10, of Glorietta, caught a 28-inch carp Aug. 5. He was using corn. Gary McKenna of Ireland caught a 30-inch carp Aug. 5. He was using corn.
- Cowles Pond: Grayson J Bisagna, 4, of Albuquerque caught a rainbow trout July 31. He was using worms.
- El Vado Lake: Dustin Armstrong of Rio Rancho caught a 16-inch perch Aug. 1. He was using a green crunch craw.
- Lake Maloya: Kelsie Iris Nelson, 3, of Albuquerque, caught and released a 16-inch rainbow trout Aug. 5. She was using a Super Duper.
- Lake Roberts: Don Oliver of Mimbres caught a 24-inch 10-pound catfish Aug. 4. He was using shrimp.
- Ute Lake: Jose Duran, 18, of Clovis, caught a 30-inch, 18-pound flathead catfish July 31. He was using cut bait. Chad Black of Logan caught and released a 6.9-pound largemouth bass August 5.
The following reports came in late but deserve a mention:
- Chama River: Dylan Luna, 4, of Chama, caught a heavy 21-inch carp July 30. He was using a night crawler.
- San Juan River: Dominique Trujillo, 14, of Aztec, caught her first trout from the San Juan, a 12-inch rainbow, July 30. She was using salmon eggs.
- Tingley Beach: Jay Lopez, 8, of Albuquerque caught an 8-pound largemouth bass July 27. He was using a shad crank bait. Lalo Lopez caught a 4-pound channel catfish July 29. He was using a custom chile cheesedog flavored bait.

Aug. 8
Northeast
Charette Lakes: Trout fishing was slow.
Clayton Lake: Fishing was good using chicken liver and worms for catfish. Fishing was slow to fair using spoons, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout. We had no other reports. Due to low water conditions, the boat ramp remains closed.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron on Monday was 11.9 cfs. Trout fishing was fair to good using brassies, Cimarron specials, olive and brown caddis, yellow sallies, salmon eggs and PowerBait. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was good using Pistol Petes, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Conchas Lake: Fishing was fair to good using finesse worms, swim baits, curly tail grubs, jerk baits, crank baits top water lures and tubes for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Night fishing was fair to good using shrimp, cut bait and liver for catfish. Fishing was slow to fair using minnows and jig and night crawler rigs for walleye. Fishing was fair using worms for bluegill. We had no other reports.
Costilla Creek: Stream flow on Monday below Costilla Dam was 65.7 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Cowles Ponds: Fishing was very good using worms, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.
Coyote Creek: Fishing was slow due to high water conditions.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, worms, Pistol Petes, Panther Martins and Super Dupers for trout.
Eagle Nest Lake: Trout fishing was fair for some and slow for others this past week. Best reports came from anglers using PowerBait and Platte River specials. Fishing was very good using worms for perch. A few northern pike were caught by anglers using streamers and spinners. We had no reports on other species.
Gallinas River: Trout fishing was good using salmon eggs, worms, hoppers and copper John Barrs.
Hopewell Lake: Fishing was fair using Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for rainbow trout.
Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, Super Dupers, parachute Adams, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. The best reports came from anglers using Pistol Petes. Fishing was good using worms for perch.
Los Pinos River: Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, salmon eggs and worms for rainbow and brown trout.
Maxwell Lake 13: Fishing was slow for all species.
Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using Kastmasters, Pistol Petes, hoppers, elk hair caddis and PowerBait for trout.
Morphy Lake: Trout fishing was slow.
Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 93 cfs. Fishing was good using Fire Balls, PowerBait, worms, San Juan worms, prince nymphs, elk hair caddis and Panther Martins for trout.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 97.4 cfs. Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, worms, egg patterns and midge imitations for trout. JP Griffin of Oklahoma reported catching two doubles within a half hour of each other this past week. He was using an egg pattern and a midge.
Red River City Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 528 cfs. Fishing in the Pilar area was good using elk hair caddis, bead-head wooly buggers, poundmeisters, Panther Martin spinners, Mepps spinners and night crawlers. Fishing was slow to fair using streamers, spoons and spinners for smallmouth bass and an occasional northern pike. We had no other reports.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 44.6 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs and worms for trout.
Rio Mora: As of Monday, stream flow near Terrero was 29.5 cfs. Fishing was good using night crawlers and salmon eggs for trout.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 40.3 cfs. Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs for trout.
Santa Cruz Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Shuree Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair to good using PowerBait, worms and Fire Balls for trout. We had no other reports.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jigs, tubes, creature baits and grubs in 15 to 20 feet of water for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing for catfish was slow but a few were caught by anglers using chicken liver on trotlines. Fishing for white bass picked up a bit and some anglers did well trolling crank baits. We had no other reports. The surface water temp was in the high 70s.
Winsor Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Northwest
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, tubes, salt craws, curly tail grubs, crawdad imitation flies and night crawlers for smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye was slow to fair for anglers using minnows, leeches, bottom bouncer night crawler rigs and jig and grub combinations. Fishing was slow to fair using PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 907 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing for trout was slow but a few were caught by anglers using PowerBait and worms. Fishing was slow to fair using, swim baits, Rapala X-Raps and big flies for tiger muskies. We had no other reports.
Brazos River: Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, Fire Balls and worms for trout. Mary “Lisa” Guevara reported great fishing over the weekend. She and friends Julie and Steve Price caught limits of rainbow trout. They were using Fire Balls and worms.
Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 153 cfs and 277 cfs respectively. Fishing above and below El Vado was good using wooly buggers, small midge patterns, night crawlers, Fire Balls and PowerBait for brown and rainbow trout. We had no reports from below Abiquiu. New special trout water: The river from the USGS gauging station to the confluence of the Rio Nutrias is now catch and release only using single barbless hook artificial flies and lures.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was good using corn for carp. Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, swim baits and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using hotdogs, shrimp and homemade dough bait for catfish. Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits and sassy shad for white bass. We had no other reports.
El Vado Lake: Fishing continued to be very good using Mepps spinners, Panther Martins, tubes, grubs and worms for smallmouth bass. Fishing was fair using worms and crunch craws for perch. Fishing was fair using spinners, worms, PowerBait and wooly buggers for brown and rainbow trout.
Fenton Lake: Fishing was slow. A few trout were caught by anglers using Pistol Petes, salmon eggs, worms and PowerBait.
Heron Lake: Bank fishing was good using assorted flavors and colors of PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. A few kokanee salmon and rainbow trout were caught by anglers trolling with spinners tipped with corn in the Ridge Rock and Piedra Cove areas. We had no other reports.
Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 20.5 cfs. Trout fishing on the Jemez was slow. Fishing on the Rio Guadalupe was fair using small dry flies for brown trout. We had no other reports.
Laguna del Campo: Fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes under a bubble and PowerBait for trout.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Navajo Lake: Fishing was good using finesse worms, tubes, jigs, curly tail grubs, crawdad flies, crank baits and chatter baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass up to 4.5 pounds. Fishing was fair using swim baits, jerk baits, chatter baits and crank baits for northern pike. Fishing for kokanee salmon was slow. We had no other reports.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 490 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was very good using San Juan worms, RS2s, crystal flash emergers, chocolate foam wing emergers, dead chickens, small bead-head pheasant tail nymphs and red and cream larva. Through the bait waters, anglers did well using San Juan worms, Chernobyl ants, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs, PowerBait, night crawlers, Panther Martin spinners and Yozuri pins minnows.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, worms and Pistol Petes for trout.
Tingley Beach: Fishing for catfish was slow with just a few caught by anglers using homemade baits and shrimp. Fishing was slow to fair using worms for bluegill. A few largemouth bass were caught by anglers using crank baits, tubes and worms. We had no other reports.
Southwest
Alumni Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using cut bait and night crawlers for catfish. We had no other reports.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was slow for all species.
Caballo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using spoons, sassy shad, curly tail grubs and spinners for white bass. Fishing was fair to good using cut bait, night crawlers and chicken liver for catfish. The best catfish reports came from anglers fishing at night. We had no other reports.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, spinners, sassy shad, minnows and grubs for white bass. Fishing for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass was slow with just a few caught by anglers using tubes, grubs,
Senkos and finesse worms. Night fishing was fair to good using cut bait, minnows, shrimp and chicken liver over baited holes for catfish. We had no other reports.
Escondida Lake: Fishing for catfish was slow to fair for anglers using liver, Mr. Catfish dough bait, hotdogs and shrimp. Fishing for all other species was slow.
Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 119 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait for trout.
Lake Roberts: Fishing was slow to fair using finesse worms, tubes, creature baits and frog imitations for largemouth bass. Fishing for catfish was fair using shrimp, chicken liver and night crawlers. We had no other reports.
Percha Dam: Fishing was fair using minnows, curly tail grubs and jigs for walleye and white bass. Fishing was fair using chicken liver, shrimp and cut bait. We had no other reports.
Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 1,590 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte and Caballo and at the Mesilla Valley Dam was fair using night crawlers, chicken liver and cut bait for catfish. Fishing was good using grubs, spoons, minnows and sassy shad for white bass. We had no other reports.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: We had no reports form anglers this week.
Southeast
Alto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 85.9 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.
Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using chicken liver, night crawlers and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. Fishing was good using crank baits, tubes, finesse worms, 4 and 6-inch plastic worms, senkos and jigs for largemouth bass and white bass. We had no other reports.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was fair using liver, night crawlers and hotdogs for catfish. We had no other reports.
El Rito Creek: Fishing was fair to good using worms and PowerBait for trout. We had no other reports.
Eunice Lake: Fishing was fair using worms, homemade dough bait and hot dogs for catfish.
Green Meadow Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using liver, Magic Bait and night crawlers for catfish.
Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was fair using chicken liver and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no other reports.
Grindstone Reservoir: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jal Lake: Fishing was fair using worms for catfish. We had no other reports.

Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 78.2 cfs. We had no reports from anglers.
Perch Lake: Fishing was good using night crawlers, liver and homemade dough bait for catfish.
Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 8.57 cfs. Fishing was good using salmon eggs for trout.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, creature baits, senkos, finesse worms, curly tail grubs, top water lures and tubes for largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using crank baits for walleye. Fishing was slow to fair using chicken liver and shrimp on trotlines for catfish. We had no other reports.
Sumner Lake: Fishing was fair using chicken liver, bluegill and shrimp for catfish. Fishing for all other species was slow with just a few small walleye and smallmouth bass reported.
