Meet Santa Fe County’s New Attorney and Finance Director

County Attorney, Bruce Frederick

Bruce Frederick brings with him nearly 25 years of private practice, non-profit, local and state government experience. Bruce’s areas of practice range from water law, natural resources and environmental law to real estate, land use, and oil and gas. Bruce has been part of the Santa Fe County Attorney’s Office as an Assistant County Attorney since February 2015.

“I have long enjoyed working in local government and I am honored to serve as County Attorney. I look forward to working with our elected officials and staff, while serving our residents,” said Bruce Frederick.

Bruce came to New Mexico in 1985 to attend graduate school at New Mexico Tech. After receiving a Master’s Degree in groundwater hydrology, he spent several years with the New Mexico Environmental Improvement Division remediating groundwater contamination sites. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of New Mexico Law School in 1993.

Finance Director, Stephanie Schardin Clarke

Stephanie Schardin Clarke was recently announced as County Finance Director. She joins the county after serving 14 years with the State of New Mexico. Most recently, Stephanie was the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for the Department of Finance and Administration. She has also served as an economist for both the Department of Finance and Administration and the Legislative Finance Committee, and as Deputy Director and Director of the State Board of Finance. She brings a wealth of expertise on bond issuance and debt management, capital outlay administration, and regulatory oversight. Additionally, she served as a board member on the New Mexico Finance Authority, the Public School Capital Outlay Council, and Chair of the Community Development Council and the Substitute Care Advisory Council.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to serve the constituents of Santa Fe County in the role of Finance Director. Santa Fe County has an excellent reputation for fiscal management, and I am honored to join such an outstanding team,” said Stephanie Schardin Clarke.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of New Mexico. Stephanie is a native of Fargo, North Dakota who has called Santa Fe her home since 2003.
