Santa Fe Public Schools Hosts County Spelling Bee

Santa Fe, NM: Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) will host the 2018 Santa Fe County Spelling Bee. The event will take place on Friday, January 19, at 1:00 PM in the Jemez Room at the Santa Fe Community College.

Students in grades K-8 are eligible to participate in the county bee, which will only judge spelling. Schools must declare their intent to participate in the county spelling bee and reserve a slot for two participants by contacting the county bee event coordinator no later than November 28, 2017. Schools must meet the December 15 enrollment deadline in order to participate in the county bee by enrolling online at www.spellingbee.com. Students can access word study lists on the national website once school registration and enrollment are complete.

School spelling bees must be held before winter break to permit winners ample time to study for the county bee. School bee organizers will review and and ensure compliance with all rules, guidelines, and eligibility components.

Two winners (one school champion, one runner-up) per school will be eligible to participate in the county spelling bee on January 19. Schools must send the names and grade levels of two winners to the event coordinator no later than January 4, 2018.

Leanne DeVane, SFPS Music Education Coordinator, is organizing the event, and may be reached at ldevane@sfps.k12.nm.us or at 505-467-2513.
