Healthy Eating During the Holidays

How to Be healthy around the holidays!

By Amanda Borrego- Body Up
No need to attend those holiday parties and family gatherings feeling sluggish and uncomfortable in your clothes! Read over these simple tips and watch yourself become healthier over the holidays!
  • Set a short term goal starting today! Remember Christmas is only one day! Some people splurge from Thanksgiving to Christmas claiming that it is too hard to be healthy around the holidays!! While this is true for the actual day that the holiday takes place, it is no reason to neglect your health for over a month! What I like to do is set a short term goal, maybe to lose 2-3 lbs before the holiday gets here that way I can really feel accomplished and enjoy myself! With time before Christmas -set a personal short term goal and see how accomplished and proud you feel!
  • Do something healthy first thing in the morning. Start your day on the right foot and you will be much more likely to carry that on through the rest of the day! Not only that you will be happier and more joyous knowing that you’re accomplished! Try to drink 20-30 ounces of water immediately after waking up! This gets your body going and gets things moving! Adding some lemon or apple cider vinegar to that water would be very beneficial to your overall health! A green smoothie with some hearty greens or broccoli thrown in could have an amazing impact on your health if you made it part of your breakfast regimen. Also, try swapping the breakfast burrito with a healthy omelet loaded with your favorite veggies- YUM! Another “something healthy” you could do first thing in the morning is get active, which brings me to my next point!
  • Go for a walk! Walking is something that I have incorporated a lot lately, and wow was I amazed how much it gets my heart rate going! Almost as much as when I run! For me it felt silly to get a gym membership just to walk on the treadmill, but oh has it been well worth it! Walking is something that I can wrap my brain around and get myself to do, try it for 20 minutes to start on a slight incline. There are many very affordable gym memberships in Santa Fe. Look around I have seen monthly memberships for as little as $10.
Good luck and if you have a big health goal you would like to reach we would love to invite you to be part of our community. Visit us at Body Up and come see how so many others have lost from 5 lbs to over 100! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
