Get set to rumble as the Capital High boys visit Espanola Valley tonight in round one of their exciting 2-5A games, with the two having played each other eight times over the past two years

No girl’s team looks like it will run away in District 2-6A, and so St. Michael’s, coming off a tough loss to Albuquerque La Cueva in its district opener, would like to get an early win in Tuesday night’s visit from Clovis,

Clovis is 9-8, and the only team with a better record is 11-5 Albuquerque Eldorado, so just as they hung in there against the Bears, the Demonettes will be putting their 9-9 overall record on the line and hope to even their district mark.

Meanwhile, the Demons have to take the long ride for Tuesday night’s district game at Clovis, which is 8-9. But Santa Fe High, at 9-9, has been up and down with some close wins, close losses and some frustration shown by head coach Zack Cole.

But unlike the girls, they have done well against the district, just missing the district tournament last season. La Cueva, at 13-2 overall, has been the best in the district, and that game is history with the hope that the Demons can strike back against the Wildcats.

Same with the Demonettes. It’s a home game, Clovis has put forth the same record, and so it looks like a task that the home team can handle.

In 2-5A, the big game Tuesday will be at Espanola Valley, with its boys having lost only once in 18 starts and ready for the challenge of Capital High (16-3). The past two seasons have had them meeting up four times in each one, and this is the first of perhaps four or even five contests between the two.

The Jaguar girls are off until Wednesday’s home game against Espanola. Capital is 9-10 and the Sundevils are 8-9. Both teams have been on a roller coaster ride, some games impressive and other games just falling off the track. In recent years, Espanola has been the better team, but Capital is improved and eager to make a statement.

Also in 2-5A tonight has West Las Vegas (13-6) traveling up to 7-10 Taos. Their boys meet Wednesday night at the Dons’ court. Taos is at 11-9 and WLV stands at 10-9, but the Tigers have been the hottest team in the district.

St. Michael’s girls have a tough test at home Wednesday night against Pojoaque, which is a surprising 15-2. The Lady Horsemen are 8-11 and have been up and down so far. They have played well at times, but have also suffered some bad times.

Unlike the girls that have two impressive teams in Pojoaque and 16-3 Robertson, the boy’s district appears to be a tight one, and even the Horsemen (7-12) have a chance. They take to the court at 6-10 Pojoaque Wednesday night.
