American Red Cross – Become a Lifeguard

Location: Genoveva Chavez Community Center

When: March 19th-23rd 8:00am -3:00pm with 1 hour lunch daily

Prerequisites: EVERYONE MUST schedule your Pretest before March 16th, 2018
Participants must be a minimum of 15yrs of age to enroll.
Participants must be able to complete a Swimming Pretest to enroll.
· Swim 300 yards continuously performing freestyle, breast stroke or combination of both.
· You may use goggle.
· 2 minutes treading water with hands under the armpits
· Timed brick retrieval 1min 40sec: begin at edge of pool, swim 20yds, dive head or feet
first to bottom, retrieve 10lb brick, resurface, swim on back to the starting edge using only one’s
legs (both hands must hold the brick), exit the pool from edge (not using ladder or steps). Goggles are NOT allowed.

Cost: $ This Class/recertification course is FREE!!
This includes the Lifeguarding Participants Manual, Adult and Pediatric CPR Masks, and Certification Fees of the American Red Cross.

Participants:
Please bring a proper swimwear, warm clothes, towels, goggles, pen or pencil, notebook, tablet, or computer. Feel free to bring snacks and stay hydrated. We will be getting in and out of the water.

Purpose:
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. This program offers a choice of Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience.
