Hopefully, forfeits don’t become addictive.

For the second time this week, a basketball team came up short on its roster, and not enough players made for a 2-0 forfeit.

Tuesday, it was the Desert Academy boys with only four players that resulted in a forfeit for Santa Fe Prep.

Thursday, the Wildcats made it to the game against visiting Academy of Technology and The Classics at Larson gymnasium with the five players required and took a 62-28 loss to fall to 0-13 while the Phoenix improved to 6-9. Desert Academy received a team-high 16 points from Damian Browne.

And Thursday brought in another forfeit, with the Santa Fe Prep girls losing their seventh straight and having to inform Albuquerque Bosque that they didn’t have at least five players. So the Bobcats became 8-7 without playing a game.

The Capital High girls haven’t had such a problem and their improvement continued with a 36-25 triumph Thursday in 2-5A play at Albuquerque Del Norte. The Jaguars are now 9-10 and 1-0 in district, while the Knights fell to 8-10 overall and 0-1 in district.

Capital, too, failed to register a field goal in the final eight minutes, but did convert 7-of-12 free throws.
