PNM supports Santa Fe kids through Zozobra

By PNM

Santa Fe, NM) – On Thursday, Jan. 25, PNM attended an event hosted by the Santa Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation, in celebration of the $67,000 that the Kiwanis will distribute to the Santa Fe community.

These funds are from the net proceeds of Zozobra, and the grants distributed from funds will go to benefit numerous Santa Fe organizations, including Esperanza Shelter, Girls Inc., Boys & Girls Club of Santa Fe/Del Norte, and many more. A complete list of beneficiaries of these grants can be found on the Zozobra website.

PNM not only donates to Zozobra every year, but also provides other types of support to the event, including line crews who hoist Old Man Gloom into place with PNM bucket trucks, and providing the 50 foot pole that supports Zozobra while he burns at the event.

PNM has been helping set up Zozobra since 1933, when the pole used to be made of wood, and PNM crews would climb the pole themselves, attach a pulley and pull Zozobra up using the pulley.

Becky Teague, vice president of the External Affairs department at PNM, attended the event to celebrate in the generosity of the Santa Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation, and help present one of the many checks being distributed.

“We are delighted to be included in this event, and look forward to continued collaboration with the Santa Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation, and Zozobra, for many years to come,” said Becky Teague.
