In a meet dominated by host Albuquerque Academy, Santa Fe High and Santa Fe Prep seniors Brett Moffett and Riley Kinlaw both won in state qualifying time in the invitational at Academy Saturday.

Moffett turned in a time of 21:15 in winning the 50-yard freestyle. Kinlaw won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.75 to already add to the other races he has qualified for. He and Moffett have gotten off to stellar starts.

But the bulk of the scoring went to the girls and boys champions from Academy, with the girls winning six of the 11 events and the boys first in seven of 11.

The runner-up Clovis boys won three races, but the Chargers handily won the team scoring with 768 points. The Demons came in fourth with 319 points, Prep 13th with 131, and St. Michael’s 19th with 35.

The Academy girls pieced together 828 points, with Santa Fe High scoring 76 for 15th place, and St. Michael’s placed 19th with 33. Los Alamos, Clovis, Rio Rancho Cleveland and Las Cruces each won a race.
The swimming-diving moves over to the Genoveva Chavez Community Center this weekend for the annual Santa Fe Prep Griffin Invitational. Scheduled to compete there are host Santa Fe Prep, Santa Fe High, St. Michael’s, Taos and Desert Academy.
