PNM grants support CNM students through two new programs

By PNM

(Albuquerque, NM) – PNM Resources Foundation gifted a total of $400,000 over the next two years
for two different program initiatives with CNM Ingenuity, a nonprofit that helps Central New Mexico Community College pursue cooperative ventures in technology and entrepreneurship. CNM serves over 37,000 students, and with the help of these grants from PNM, the community college hopes to reach additional students, and enhance our local community at the same time.

CNM Ingenuity: ecoMOD Home Construction and Internships – CNM, CNM Ingenuity and the UNM School of Architecture are partnering to provide hands-on paid internships for students interested in quality careers in the construction fields. Interns will help construct an “ecoMOD” home – a highly energy efficient, cost-effective, state-of-the-art modular housing solution – for use as affordable housing in the Albuquerque area. The next completed ecoMOD home will go to Habitat for Humanity, and then the next two will be placed in neighborhoods near CNM Main Campus as affordable housing options.

CNM Ingenuity: Bilingual Customer Service Training – In New Mexico, there’s a significant need for more Spanish speakers in customer service jobs. This program teaches customer relationship principles to help non-native speakers of English in becoming successful customer service representatives. Participants learn essential writing skills, business professionalism skills and telephone techniques.
The curriculum can be customizable for specific industries.

“Education plays such an important role in the economic success of New Mexico,” said Becky Teague, VP of External Affairs with PNM. “We are proud to be a part of these two programs that offer growth and valuable experience to people in our state.”

In honor of PNM turning 100 years old, PNM Resources and its shareholders made a sizeable contribution to the PNMR Foundation, totaling $1 million over the course of two years. Five different organizations in New Mexico are beneficiaries of these funds, including CNM Ingenuity, all of which have a focus towards furthering education and economic development in our state.
