Hayden Colfax just goes from season to season.

She starts out with cross country and soccer in the fall, swimming-diving in the winter, and checks in with track and field in the spring.

So now it’s track and field time for the versatile sophomore.

Winner of her first state gold medal when she topped the 3A field in the 100 hurdles at last year’s track and field championships run at UNM, now she’s out to add some more to the collection she hung around her neck, seconds in the high jump and triple jump, third with the 4 x 400 relay foursome, and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

So on this past Saturday at the Jemez Valley Warriors Invitational, Colfax was already in midseason form. She competed in five events won them all, and ran state-qualifying times in the high jump (4-10) and the triple jump (31-11).

Right on schedule, she added the 100-meter hurdles in 17.6, the 300-meter hurdles in 51.36, and the ran third leg on the victorious sprint medley relay team that clocked 4:45.

She could do more, but it’s tough to add basketball, volleyball, tennis and golf to her schedule, although she’s also a winner in the classrooms.

The Griffin girls also ran off with the team championship.

There was junior Taylor Lincoln racing off with wins in the 100 in the state-qualifying time of 12:52, but came up short in adding the 200 in 28:35.
Other Prep winners were senior Francessa Maestas in the shot put (27-2) and freshman Rafola Mark in the javelin with a best throw at 73-9. Then there was 8th grader Voinescu in the long jump with a best of 13-113/4.

Led by junior Sam Sparks, the Griffin boys settled for the runner-up spot. Sparks was the long jump winner in the state-qualifying distance of 20-31/2, did the same by qualifying for state in his high jump win in 5-feet, and came in second in the javelin and the 100 meters.
