Chicoma Fire

Location: Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest. 5 miles east of Chicoma peak and 9 miles west of Espanola.
Weather: The winds are currently out of the southwest, gusting up to 20 MPH.
Situation: The fire was reported the afternoon of Monday, April 30. Resources on scene include 3 engines and a 20 person handcrew. 4 air tankers are also on scene, dropping retardant on the fire. In addition, a 20 person hotshot crew is enroute along with 2 more engines.
Smoke/Air Quality: Communities to the east, or northeast may be impacted by smoke because of prevailing winds. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
