On Sunday, June 24, Voto Latino will lead a delegation of elected officials, human rights advocates, and religious leaders to the “tent city” at Tornillo, Texas, to keep up the pressure on the Trump administration and demand an end to family separations.
Since Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy last month, almost 2,000 children have been forcibly separated from their parents. To manage the ever-increasing numbers, Tornillo’s Land Port of Entry has been designated as an additional facility where hundreds of migrant children are already detained in tents and kept away from their families.
The delegation will organize a march and demonstration of solidarity in Tornillo to demand an immediate end to the enforcement of this inhumane and Un-American policy and launch a national campaign to encourage everyone to contact their Members of Congress to #StopSeparation.
Elected officials, advocates, and religious leaders will be available to brief reporters and answer questions after the event.
