The Santa Fe Prep soccer boys scored their first win of the young season and Monte del Sol gave undefeated Taos a tough time in Saturday afternoon action.

The Griffins, now 1-4, turned back visiting East Mountain, 4-1, at Sun Mountain Field in non-district play, with senior Luke Stein scoring twice and senior Sam Gilbert breaking the 1-1 tie.

The Dragons went against Taos (6-0) in non-district play at the Municipal Recreation Complex and took it to the limits. It was 1-0 Tigers after the first half, but from there it was back-and-forth as each team scored three times in the second half. Monte del Sol isnow 2-1-1.

“I don’t think anyone has scored three times against Taos,” said Dragons’ head coach Fritz Rothdach. “We made some mistakes, but we are a young team in progress, and would like to put everyone on notice that we are playing very well and are only going to get stronger.”

Prep and Monte del Sol now meet up Tuesday at Sun Mountain Field in non-district play.

The Dragons picked up a goal apiece from freshman Moises Corda, freshman Alejandro Morales and junior Pedro Chavez, and are now 2-1-1.
