Bluewater Lake State Park Closed Temporarily to Boating Due to Winter Conditions

By EMNRD
Bluewater Lake is temporarily closed to boating and ice fishing due to recent weather conditions that have produced unsafe lake conditions for boating and ice fishing activities. Although boat ramp access is closed, camping is available at the park.
A thin and unsafe layer of ice has formed over the outer portions of the lake, but much of the lake still has open water. These unsafe water conditions prohibit safe boating or ice fishing activities on the lake.  Fishing is still allowed from the bank in open water.
In addition, lake water temperatures are very cold, and visitors need to take proper precautions to minimize the chances of going into the water.  State Park officials recommend the following YouTube video to learn steps to take if you fall into cold water: “Cold Water Boot Camp USA: 1-10-1.” http://www.coldwaterbootcampusa.org/videos.shtml
Please call Bluewater Lake State Park at 505-876-2391 for fishing and lake conditions throughout the year.  For more information on all New Mexico State Parks, please visit our website at www.nmparks.com.
