BOLD New Action to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease

By Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

Upon the signing of the Building Our Largest Dementia Infrastructure for Alzheimer’s Act (BOLD) into law, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), a national nonprofit organization that provides support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, released the following statement:

“The federal government has taken another important step forward in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by passing the BOLD Act (S2076/HR4256) into law.  We thank the Senate, House and President for coming together to deliver crucial support to the more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s President & CEO.

“This new law will help close existing infrastructure gaps in our health care system and deliver valuable new resources for the prevention, treatment and care of Alzheimer’s disease.  Once fully implemented and funded, state health departments, professional caregivers, families and communities as a whole will be able to access greater support to help educate individuals about Alzheimer’s disease and improve quality of life for those affected by it,” said Eric Sokol, AFA’s Senior Vice-President of Public Policy.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a public health issue, not a partisan one.  It’s heartening to see Republicans and Democrats once again unifying to deliver meaningful results that will make a difference. We hope that continues in the New Year, starting with additional federal research funding toward the curefor Alzheimer’s that millions of Americans are praying for every single day,” Fuschillo added.
