HSFF’s 5th annual staff opening and exhibition

By Historic Santa Fe Foundation

Historic Santa Fe Foundation (HSFF) will host its fifth annual staff show titled On/Off Hours 5. Exhibition opens at El Zaguán, 545 Canyon Road, Suite 2, Santa Fe, New Mexico on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 5-7pm and continues through February 25, 2019. On/Off Hours 4 will feature artist-selected works including Jacqueline Hill’s collages, Melanie McWhorter’s installation with photographs from Japan, Mara Saxer’s stained glass and wall pieces, and Pete Warzel’s drawings.

Jacqueline Hill uses various fabrics for her art pieces and is known for her handmade quilts, Black Girl Dolls, her cloth Abundance Bags and a variety of clothing pieces. She has worked in clay since the 1960s and her magic pinch pots are available in the El Zaguán Gift Shop. She is represented by High Road Art Gallery in Truches, NM. This year’s show will feature her unique and creative framed collage pieces. She has been the Office Manager at the HSFF for over five years.

Melanie McWhorter spent decades in the field of photobooks and draws on the work of influential photographers in her personal art. Her photographs are in the collections of University of Colorado, Boulder Special Collections and The Palace of the Governors, Santa Fe, NM. More on McWhorter on her website website or Instagram @mellyvanilla. This year’s exhibition features photographs and an installation from a recent trip to Japan. She is the Development Coordinator for HSFF.

Mara Saxer is an Austrian-born artist who grew up in Santa Fe. When she isn’t keeping the Foundation’s buildings in tip-top shape, she dabbles in crafts from fiber arts to jewelry and stained glass. She will be showing works in stained glass that explore themes of modular repeatability, transparency and light, and the aesthetics of repair. More about Saxer on her website. Saxer is Preservation Specialist for HSFF.

Pete Warzel is the Executive Director of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation. Outside of his usual photography are the small drawings included in this show. They are strictly abstract – graphite, charcoal, pastel, oil paint… or all of the above.
