Santa Fe High came away with four first places at the annual Al Salazar Wrestling Invitational at St. Michael’s, will join with Capital at Saturday’s Conflict Invite at Rio Rancho Cleveland

State champion Isaiah Martinez has graduated, but first-year Santa Fe High head coach Mark Hussey has a good group of wrestlers led by sophomore Miguel Padilla and junior Issac Beltran.

Both did well last year at the state 5A championships. Padilla came in at 113 and lost in the final to Rio Rancho Cleveland junior Tristan Mascarena, 10-4, with Mascarena winding up at 36-2 and Padilla at 37-9. Then there was Beltran at the 120 weight. He finished at 29-5 after losing in the final to Albuquerque Manzano senior Issac Garcia by a 6-5 score.

Now they are in track for another solid season, maybe even winning state this time. At the recent Al Salazar tournament at St. Michael’s, Padilla was at the 126 weight and placed first. Beltran, at 132, also took the top spot as the Demons finished second to Cleveland.
