The New Mexico Governor’s Mansion Foundation and the New Mexico FIlm Office are proud to announce the winners of the design contest for New Mexico’s popular official ornament.
All five finalists in the “New Mexico Films, The Great American West” design theme will receive an educational grant.
”Talented artists from all across the state contributed to this contest,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. “I’m thrilled by everyone’s participation and honored they would share their gifts with our state. Thanks to all, and good luck to the finalists!”
Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes of the Economic Development Department also congratulated the students.
“The lure of our open space continues to attract filmmakers to New Mexico and I am so pleased that our landscapes and our history have inspired a younger generation of artists.”
The finalists are:
Cheyenne Garcia of New Mexico State University; Robert Cantu of Pojoaque Valley High School; Carrie Dada and Leroy Grafe of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe; and Leslie Bello of the Public Academy for the Performing Arts in Albuquerque.
The first place entry will receive a $2,500 scholarship with $1,000 for second; $500 for 3rd and 4th and $250 for 5th place.
The winning design will be unveiled at a red carpet release party in September hosted by The New Mexico Governor’s Mansion Association.
