Three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly. The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division is proud to partner with Safer New Mexico Now to reduce deaths and injuries on our state’s roadways. The proper use of a child safety seat reduces the risk of death among infants by 71% and 53% for older children. In order for a safety seat to be effective, it should fit the child, the vehicle and be used consistently and correctly.
Often times, parents or caregivers don’t realize there might be a problem with the child’s safety seat. Each month, trained and certified child passenger safety seat technicians will inspect your child’s car seat or booster at ten permanent locations. Parents and caregivers will also receive education on the proper selection, installation and use of safety seats. They must bring the car seat and if possible the child. The public service events are by appointment only and funded by NMDOT.
The dates for this month’s car seat fittings are listed below.
