Santa Fe Public Schools and NEA-Santa Fe Recognize the SFPS March Educational Support Professional of the Month, Carol Kalm

By SFPS

In partnership with NEA-Santa Fe, Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) is pleased to announce that El Dorado Community School educational assistant, Carol Kalm, is the SFPS March Educational Support Professional of the Month. Kalm was recognized on Tuesday, March 26th with an award, gift card, and certificate presented by Grace Mayer, president of NEA-Santa Fe, and SFPS Superintendent Dr. Veronica C. Garcia.  Each month, NEA-Santa Fe will recognize a support staff member as the Educational Support Professional of the Month for SFPS.

Educational support professionals (ESPs) are a vital part of the educational environment.  They include secretaries, educational assistants (regular and special education), nutrition workers, transportation workers, librarians and health aides.   The Educational Support Professional of the Month honors ESPs for their outstanding contributions to SFPS students, their families and the community they serve.

Each month, NEA-Santa Fe will recognize an ESP of the month for SFPS. The chosen honorees will be surprised with certificates and gifts and recognized on District websites and social media.

Students, parents, teachers, secretaries, principals, community members and any other stakeholder may nominate an ESP for this honor by completing a nomination form on the District website (www.sfps.info) or by completing a paper nomination form located at the front desk at all schools. A diverse group of non-SFPS staff reviews all nominations and selects a recipient to honor each month. School community members are encouraged to nominate their favorite ESP today!

“One can never say ‘thank you’ enough to those whose dedicated service to education opens a world of opportunity and discovery for children.  This is why I am pleased to identify and honor outstanding SFPS educational support professionals through the Educational Support Professional of the Month recognition initiative.   I am so appreciative of Grace Mayer and NEA-Santa Fe for their support and sponsorship of this wonderful program,” said Superintendent Dr. García.

“Our congratulations to Carol Kalm on being recognized for her outstanding contributions,” she said.

Kalm has worked at El Dorado Community School as an educational assistant for over eight years. She began as a substitute, and was quickly recognized by the Special Education teaching staff for how much she had to offer to students. For several years, she supported students in the high-needs resource room.

“This SFPS recognition program began with the support and urging of our community, which is eager to promote the incredible work of the dedicated teachers and staff in our schools. Congratulations to our community supporters and teachers for all they do for our kids!” said Superintendent Dr. García.
