District 2-3A had no problem gaining the state tournament in baseball and softball.

Maybe these schools hung around to check out the brackets arranged by the New Mexico Activities Association, but every thing fell into place for the likes of Robertson, West Las Vegas, St. Michael’s, Santa Fe Indian School and Raton. Only Santa Fe Prep was left out.

In both sports, Robertson (18-7) was declared the No. 1 seed, and in baseball will be home to 16thseed Tularosa (4-17) in Friday’s first round of the best-of-three series. In softball, the Cardinals (17-8) will play host to 16th seed East Mountain (6-19)on Wednesday in single elimination.

St. Michael’s (16-9) got a gift in getting the 4thseed in baseball. It will be home Friday in the first round to 12th seeded Zuni (10-11). In softball, the Lady Horsemen (7-18) are seeded 10th and will have to hit the road to 7th seed Dexter (13-14) Wednesday.

Then there was West Las Vegas (17-6) the 3rd seed in baseball and getting a visit from 14th seeded Thoreau (13-10). In softball, the 4th seeded Dons (19-6) face a familiar foe, 13th seed district rival Raton (6-17).

Santa Fe Indian School (15-11) comes into state baseball as the 8th seed and that gives it home field Saturday versus 9th seeded Navajo Prep (17-4). In softball, the 6th seeded Braves (15-11) are also home and will face 11th seeded Tohatchi (15-11).

Raton, the 15th seed in baseball at 4-20, will be heading to 2nd seeded East Mountain (19-7) for the first round. As for Santa Fe Prep, it lacked depth in both sports and did not qualify.

Nothing good to report in 5A. Neither the District 5 softball and baseball teams from Capital and Santa Fe High made state. But the Demons, ranked 16, just missed out with its 12-13 baseball record.Capital in baseball was 6-18. In softball, the Jaguars wound up at 11-13 and the Demonettes at 6-17.

But in 2A, Desert Academy (5-16), in its first varsity baseball season, made it in as the 14th seed and will play at 4th seeded Rehoboth (15-3).
