Catches of the week

Caballo Lake: Dmitri Hewitt, age 3, of Las Cruces caught an approximately 18-inch carp using nightcrawlers Oct. 13. Charlie Lujan of Mesquite caught a 17-inch largemouth bass bank fishing using a yellow and red crank bait Oct. 8.
Eagle Nest Lake: Terry Norcross and Matthew Farmer, both of Albuquerque, caught a 38-inch, 14-pound pike and a 38.5-inch, 15-pound pike using Rapala lures Oct. 11.
Grindstone Lake: Rocky Zogg of Amarillo, Texas caught and released an approximately 18-inch rainbow trout using a gold spinner Oct. 11.
Red River: Aiden Paquin, age 14, of Bernalillo caught a 20-inch rainbow trout using salmon eggs Oct. 9.
San Juan River: Hope Carreon of Las Cruces caught an approximately 29-inch brown trout using an i-Yong Blondie fly Oct. 11.
Santa Cruz Lake: Alyson Trina Archuleta, age 9, of Penasco caught two rainbow trout over 20-inches using a Kastmaster lure Oct. 13.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Clarissa Valdez, age 3, of Arlington, Texas caught a 26-inch, 8-pound brown trout using a spinner Oct. 11. Chase Crawford, age 8, of Albuquerque caught an 18-inch trout using pink PowerBait under a float bobber Oct. 10.
Ute Lake: Angie Colantonio of Amarillo, Texas caught a 3.44-pound smallmouth bass using a Berkley Chigger Craw Oct. 13. Laura Elkins, also of Amarillo, caught three largemouth bass weighing a total of 10.18-pounds using chatter baits and Senkos Oct. 13.
 
The following reports came in late, but are definitely worth mentioning:
Rio Grande: Rob Vigil of Espanola went fishing for his birthday and caught a 21.5-inch rainbow trout near Pilar using a black and gold Panther Martin spinner Oct. 3.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Kole Kinney, age 6, of Las Cruces caught a 22-inch rainbow trout using an artificial crawdad Oct. 5.

Cabresto Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Charette Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Cimarron River: Stream flow near Cimarron Monday morningwas 30.4 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using Parachute Adams flies, caddis dry flies and small nymph flies.
Clayton Lake: Fishing for trout was fair to good using PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using chicken liver. The boat ramp is closed due to low water levels.
Conchas Lake: Fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass was good using buzz baits, Senkos and crawdad baits. Fishing for catfish was good using chicken liver and hotdogs. We had no reports on other species.
Costilla Creek: Stream flow near Costilla Monday was 7.13 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using small dry flies and bead head nymph flies.
Cowles Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Coyote Creek: Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs.
Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait and Panther Martin spinners. Fishing for pike was good using Rapala lures and spoons. We had no reports this week on other species.
Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing for trout was good using flies, PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms.
Fawn Lakes: The last report was that high runoff water has created poor fishing conditions.
Gallinas River: Fishing for trout was good using Panther Martin spinners.
Hopewell Lake: Fishing for trout was fair to good using Pistol Petes, spinners, PowerBait and worms.
Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Maloya: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Los Pinos River: Fishing for trout was good using terrestrial fly patterns with a small bead head nymph dropper fly.
Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Monastery Lake: Fishing for trout was good using Panther Martin spinners and PowerBait.
Morphy Lake: Closed for a renovation project on the dam and no firm opening date has been set.
Pecos River: Stream flow near the town of Pecos Monday morning was 32.1 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using live worms, woolly buggers, salmon eggs, PowerBait and Panther Martin spinners.
Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery Monday morning was 45.0 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using salmon eggs, nymph flies and Panther Martin spinners.
Rio Grande: Stream flow at the Taos Junction Bridge Monday morning was 338 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using Panther Martin spinners, streamers, bead head nymphs and night crawlers. Fishing near Albuquerque for catfish was good using cut bait, hotdogs and nightcrawlers dipped in garlic. One angler reported catching a walleye north of Bernalillo using a silver Blue Fox spinner.
Rio Hondo: Stream flow Monday morning near Valdez was 14.1 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using nymph flies.
Rio Mora: Stream flow Monday morning was 7.91 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using bead head nymph flies and salmon eggs.
Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco Monday morning was 7.81 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using a variety of small dry flies, salmon eggs and small bead head nymph flies.
Santa Cruz Lake: Fishing for trout was fair to good using PowerBait, white plastic baits tipped with worms and Kastmaster lures.
Shuree Ponds: We hand no reports from anglers this week. Fishing is open on the Valle Vidal, including Shuree Ponds, July 1–Dec. 31.
Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Storrie Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Ute Lake: Fishing for smallmouth and largemouth bass was good using plastic crawdads, chatter baits and jigs. Fishing for white bass was fair using jigging slabs and blade baits in 30 to 40 feet of water. Fishing for walleye was good vertical jigging in 25 to 35 feet of water. Fishing for catfish was good using punch bait. We had no reports on other species. The main lake was clear and the water temperature was in the upper 60s.

Northwest Fishing Report

Abiquiu Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. Due to low water levels anglers are advised to use four-wheel drive vehicles to launch boats and watch for obstructions on the water.
Animas River: Water flow below Aztec Monday morning was 257 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing for bass was fair to good using small crank baits and Senko worms.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing for tiger muskie was fair using swimbaits, Rapalas and spinnerbaits. We had no reports on other species this week.
Brazos River: Fishing for trout was good using pheasant tail nymph flies, Panther Martin spinners and salmon eggs.
Canjilon Lakes: Fishing for trout was fair to good using dry flies and yellow PowerBait.
Chama River: Monday morning flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 754 cfs and 867 cfs, respectively. Fishing for trout below El Vado Lake was good using leach pattern flies, tungsten bead head green scud flies, peacock nymph flies, salmon eggs, worms, Panther Martin spinners, nightcrawlers and yellow garlic PowerBait. We had no reports from anglers fishing below Abiquiu Lake.
Cochiti Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: Fishing for trout was good using lures, yellow PowerBait and garlic flavored PowerBait.
Heron Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near the town of Jemez Monday morning was 11.1 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair using nymph flies and wax worms.
Laguna del Campo: Fishing for trout was fair to good using gold spinners and PowerBait.
Lagunitas Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
McGaffey Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing for bass was slow. Fishing for pike was fair using swimbaits and jerk baits. Fishing for kokanee salmon using snagging hooks was good around the dam. Kokanee salmon snagging season is open from Oct. 1–Dec. 31. We had no reports on other species.
San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
San Juan River: Stream flow Monday morning was 610 cfs. Fishing for trout in the quality water was good using red and cream larva fly patterns, mono midge pupa patterns and crystal flash midge emergers. On the lower river, fishing for trout was good using Baetis nymphs, Parachute Adams and Blue Wing Olives. Fishing for trout in the bait waters was good using worms and spinners.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing for trout was good using spinners, PowerBait, salmon eggs, leach pattern flies and salmon eggs.
Tingley Beach: Fishing was slow for all species.
Trout Lakes: Fishing for trout was good using PowerBait.

Alumni Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bear Canyon Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bill Evans Lake: Fishing for bass was slow.
Caballo Lake: Fishing for largemouth bass was fair using yellow and red crank baits. Fishing for carp was fair using worms and bread.
Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing for white bass was very good using top water lures in schools of rising fish and fair to good using jigging slabs. Fishing for largemouth bass was good using centipede plastic baits. Fishing for catfish was good using live minnows and worms. Fishing for walleye was slow. Fishing for crappie was fair using minnows around the marina.
Escondida Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Gila River: Stream flow Monday morning was 38.2 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using flies near West Fork.
Glenwood Pond: Fishing for trout was good using small dry flies, salmon eggs and PowerBait.
Lake Roberts: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Percha Dam: Fishing for all species was slow.
Quemado Lake: Fishing for trout was fair to good using PowerBait and worms.
Rancho Grande Ponds: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was .57 cfs. Fishing above Elephant Butte Lake for catfish was good using cut bait and worms. Fishing below Caballo Lake for catfish, walleye and white bass was good using worms.
Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Young Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Black River: Stream flow at Malaga Monday morning was 9.92 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Blue Hole Park Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage. It appears now that the lake will be out of commission until the spring of 2020.
Bosque Redondo Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Brantley Lake: Fishing for bass was fair using buzz baits.
Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Ruidoso River: Stream flow Monday morning at Hollywood was 8.31 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair using Panther Martin spinners, nymph flies and salmon eggs.
Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing for bass was slow. We had no reports on other species.
Sumner Lake: Fishing for bass and catfish was slow using plastic baits. Fishing for walleye was fair to good using plastic centipedes, various spinners and Super Duper lures.
