Undefeated high school basketball teams in New Mexico has dropped to two, only two after Rio Rancho Cleveland lost to Albuquerque Volcano Vista Wednesday night in 5A.

That left only 2A Magdalena on the boy’s list at 16-0, with a previous postponed game to be played at 3-time state champion Pecos on Feb. 11. The Steers are 16-0, the Panthers 16-1, and are in separate districts.
Hobbs is the lone girl’s team with an unblemished record, 18-0.
Defending state 3A girl’s champion, Robertson, is still struggling to gain the state tournament this time, now at 6-10and ranked 20th in 3A after downing District 2 rival Santa Fe Indian School, 54-46, for its second straight victory Wednesday night. The Braves fell to 13-5, but are ranked eighth.
In the same district, St. Michael’s girls are 9-8 and ranked 14th, West Las Vegas is 11-6 and ranked 12th, Santa Fe Prep is 4-6 and ranked 17th and Raton is at the bottom of the list.
As for the boys, St. Michael’s is 10-7 overall, and Robertson appears to be the main challenge, while West Las Vegas is a contender and Santa Fe Indian School is not nearly as good as last season’s trip to the state finals. Plus, Raton is a surprising 11-5 and could be a tough test for the visiting Horsemen Saturday night.
