Las Vegas Robertson has won the most overall games, has scored the most runs (190), but can not expect to advance to the 4A state baseball tournament.

That will be either two or three teams from District 4, as first place St. Michael’s, second place Taos and third place West Las Vegas head down the stretch.

Yes, the Cardinals are 15-9, but are 4-6 in district and have already lost twice to the Tigers, twice to the Dons, and once to the Horsemen, who they will play Saturday in a doubleheader at St. Michael’s.

That leaves the Horsemen as they head for Taos for a Thursday doubleheader scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m. starts. They won previously at home, 3-2, to the Tigers, who are 5-3 in district and 14-6 overall, as well as the 7-3 triumph in the March Southwest Classic.

Taos winds up Saturday with an 11 a.m.-1 p.m. doubleheader at Pojoaque Valley, with the Elks also out of the post-season at 2-7-1 in district and 10-13-1 overall.

The Tigers can score, with their 65 runs the most in district, and they have allowed 41. St. Michael’s has the least, 44, and has yielded 39.

West Las Vegas, 6-5-1 in district and 12-9-1 overall, has already concluded its regular season with Tuesday’s 4-3 win at St. Michael’s. But the Dons would win a tiebreaker against the Horsemen after splitting a pair at home.

They would also do the same versus Taos after taking 2-of-3 from the Tigers. Their tie was in a 4-4 contest against Pojoaque.

As for St. Michael’s, a sweep at Taos would be the most ideal outcome, while a split gives it the head-to-head edge. All the Horsemen would need is a split with the Cardinals to ensure no worst than a tie with the Dons as the regular-season wind down.

In the current 4A rankings, the Horsemen are fifth, Taos seventh, Robertson eighth and West Las Vegas ninth.

On top is Albuquerque Hope Christian at 16-7. Next comes 19-6 Portales, New Mexico Military Institute (15-7-1) and Silver (16-8).

The Capital and Santa Fe High baseball teams are just winding up with no chance at the playoffs.

The 5A Jaguars (2-20) have lost 12 in a row and are at second-ranked Albuquerque Academy (18-6) today and home to Los Alamos (10-13) Saturday in a doubleheader slated for 11 and 1. Capital is 0-9 in district.

The Chargers rank behind 19-5 Alamogordo, with Goddard third at 18-6.

The 6A Demons (9-14) have lost 11 of their last 12 after winning three-straight. They conclude Saturday in a twin bill at Albuquerque Eldorado (14-7) also scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts. Santa Fe High is 0-8 in district.

Albuquerque La Cueva (21-1) heads the 6A rankings. Rio Rancho Cleveland is at 19-5, and Piedra Vista and Rio Rancho High at 17-7.
