Greetings!
Before we get ahead of ourselves with the adorable (and adoptable!) dogs, cats, bunnies and more in our video short feature on the City’s partnership with Santa Fe Humane Society & Animal Shelter, let’s take a moment for some big celebrations and launches that happened this week.
World’s Best Cities
Social media is buzzing as Travel & Leisure Magazine, one of the world’s leading tourism publications, named Santa Fe as one of only 15 in their latest list of “World’s Best Cities.“
You can add that to the National Geographic’s award for best “Sense of Place” and “Top 20 Mountain Biking Town” and Outside Magazine’s award in their “Best Towns Ever” Guide for the “Best Combination of Mountains and Margaritas.”
A Big Grant for MAKE Santa Fe!
Helping young people map to careers is one of a City’s toughest but most important jobs. And among the many organizations helping us get the job done is MAKE Santa Fe. With funding from the City’s Economic Development fund, they launched last year a pilot curriculum that teaches, in partnership with YouthWorks, young Santa Feans how to work in high tech digital fabrication
and advanced manufacturing – still emerging sectors with enormous promise for the next generation of careers.
Now that pilot curriculum is getting an extra boost, as this public/private/non-profit partnership has won a $50,000 CommunityWINS grant – one of only six nationwide.
They’ll use the money to expand the reach of their program, working to make it something we can use at multiple sites in ways that take this 200-hour, twelve-week certification to more and more people every year.
They also incorporate mentorship, employee soft skills like customer service, and job placement.
A win for the community is always reason to celebrate – when that win means jobs for young people, we couldn’t be happier to be moving forward!
