SFCC Continuing Education Offers Summer Classes for Kids, Tweens, Teens and Adults

SANTA FE, NM –Santa Fe Community College’s Continuing Education Department offers fun, inspiring summer programs for participants of all ages: kids age 3 and up, tweens, teens and adults. Delve into a new subject or develop your artistic talents at an affordable price. Most classes are on campus and others will take you to outdoor adventures. Meet the instructors at a festive CE Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. Wed., May 23 in Room 131 on the SFCC campus, 6401 Richards Ave.The CE schedule offers 40 new continuing education courses.

The Kids Stuff schedule offers a variety of classes for kids from tots to teens. Youngsters can learn a variety of fun skills including how to swim, cook, play guitar or build robots. Several outdoor adventure classes will stimulate learning and teamwork while offering fun on SFCC’s Ropes Challenge Course. Tweens and teens can learn website design, computer programming or cartoon development.

Want to cook some tasty new dishes? Five new classes will help you prepare a feast.  Maria Elena Bustamante Bernal’s class will have you whipping up a vegetarian meal from fresh ingredients you buy at the Farmer’s Market.   For those who would like to prepare some Native American foods, join nationally known chef Lois Ellen Frank to prepare a full meal from an appetizer to a dessert.

If you’re looking for outdoor fun and adventure, check out the variety of Southwest Exploration classes. New this summer is a full-day cultural immersion visit to village of Chimayó led by Thomas Gallegos. He will also lead a tour to Pecos, as well as an Abiquiú and Ghost Ranch tour geared to art lovers. Other outdoor adventure classes include William Neuwirth’s Ecology of the Santa Fe Mountains and two classes that explore the Valles Caldera – one from the East Rim and the other from the South Rim.

For those looking for new professional development opportunities or career advancement, CE offers many business skills classes, as well as courses leading to green construction and energy efficiency certifications.  Also, new this summer is Design for 3D Printing, which offers an opportunity to earn a Digital Badge at Fab Lab Santa Fe on campus.
