The Santa Fe Fireshed refers to a 107,000 acre landscape in the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains that extends to the east of Tesuque and Santa Fe, on to Pecos, NM south of I-25. It includes part of the Santa Fe National Forest, the Pueblos of Tesuque and Nambé, the Village of Tesuque, the Hyde Memorial State Park, the Santa Fe City Watershed, the Ski Santa Fe Ski Basin, and other public and private land areas.

The Greater Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition formed in 2015 as an informal partnership of land management agencies such as the Santa Fe National Forest, fire departments, non-profit organizations, and interest groups. The Coalition’s mission is to use a proactive, collaborative approach to improve the health and long-term resilience of forested watersheds and communities by addressing wildfire. To this end, The Nature Conservancy conducted a wildfire risk assessment of the forested watersheds and communities within the Fireshed boundaries that quantifies the likelihood of wildfire occurring, its probable intensity, and the susceptibility of values-at-risk to wildfire effects.
