If you check the latest boys and girls basketball standings in 4A, you might think there’s a typo.

But it’s not, for at the bottom of the overall standings is Albuquerque Hope Christian, and both the girls and boys are winless. But that’s because of their respective schedules, which are sometimes the same way they start the season.

Both have played four games, all against 5A schools – Volcano Vista, Atrisco Heritage, Sandia, La Cueva, and Cibola, all from Albuquerque.

The only difference is that this time they haven’t won a game, but it’s a long season and the Huskies’ boys have won the state championship 11 times and the girls four.

Tonight, the Hope boys get another 5A test when they meet up with Clovis (2-2) in the Albuquerque Academy tournament. Th girls are in the same tournament and face Gallup (4-1) Friday.

But whatever it looks like now, when the state tournament bounces, the two Husky teams will be a high seed and be in the hunt for another title. The boys first won one in 1985 under head coach Jim Murphy, and he’s still there in year number 33.

In recent results, the two-time defending state champions from Pecos are at 4-2 after rolling over East Mountain in non-district play. And Robertson has gotten away to a poor start, which has it at 0-4 after the 59-29 setback to Valencia (4-3).

Los Alamos’ boys finally won their first game in seven starts by getting past Santa Fe Indian School, 56-41, to drop the Braves to 1-3. Santa Fe Prep lost its third of four starts when Albuquerque Bosque School scored a whopping 84-36 success to get to 3-3.

Monte del Sol disposed of Albuquerque Cottonwood Classical, 71-47, to bring its record to 2-1, and Desert Academy took a 55-38 loss from Vaughn, then there was  Portales (2-1) taking a close one, 62-61, over West Las Vegas as the Dons lost for the first time in four starts.

In girl’s play, unbeaten Pecos advanced to 4-2 with a 65-18 romp over East Mountain, which dropped its sixth of seven starts. Santa Fe Prep fell to 0-2 by losing, 33-11, to Bosque (4-2), and Kirtland Central (4-2) rolled over Espanola Valley, 65-27, as the Sundevils fell to 3-3.

Albuquerque Cottonwood handed winless Monte del Sol its fifth setback, 37-9, Portales romped over West Las Vegas, 70-46, to even its mark at 3-3 and put the Dons at 4-2. And undefeated Pojoaque is now 3-0 following a 39-19 victory over the winless Knights, who are now 0-4.
