No news is good news? Well, it depends on the MRI results that has Santa Fe High 6-foot-6standout Fedonta “JB” White presently sidelined.

It was originally diagnosed as a just a knee injury after landed awkwardly after blocking a shot in the first quarter of the non district basketball game at Clovis last Saturday. But to make certain, he was rushed to the area hospital and it was diagnosed as a dislocated patella.

But the good news was that the left knee cap snapped back into place when trainers turned White from his side to his back while waiting for paramedics to arrive.

Head coach Zack Cole added that the swelling in White’s knee had gone down slightly. He thought that the player could get treatment from head trainer David Manning today.

But then came the news that the severity of White’s knee is still unknown, and the MRI results are likely to come on Monday.

He is the best player on a Demon team that is having a stellar season. It started with seven-straight wins and followed by winning its own Bobby Rodriguez Capital City tournament for the first time since 1998. Its present 13-3 record is its best start in 20 years.

It is also ranked fifth in the state 5A rankings and handed Rio Rancho Cleveland its initial loss of the campaign.

But the Demons did a good job when White broke his thumb during the University of New Mexico team camp back in June, and missed a significant portion of the summer, which brought his teammates the experience of playing without him, and they won 28 of 30 games played during the team camps, and went 17-2 in his absence.

But he’s still their key man. He is strong inside, as well as having a quality outside shot. He leads the team in rebounds, blocks, and scoring, and it is hopeful that the news is good news.

Santa Fe High opens District 5-5A play at Albuquerque High Wednesday. Cross town rival Capital (12-3), and Albuquerque schools Sandia and Manzano are the main threats in a district that also includes Albuquerque Rio Grande.
