Santa Fe Prep and Monte del Sol Players Make All District

Santa Fe Prep and Monte del Sol place a player each on the All-District 2-3A girls and boy’s teams, with Dulce winning both the girls and boys districts

Santa Fe Prep sophomore Dillon Abeyta (photoed above) and Monte del Sol junior Stephen Herrera were named to the boy’s basketball All-District 2-3A first team.

Along with those two, the remaining five selected were Dulce seniors Sean Vicenti, Typrese Callado and Anfernee Callado, along with Espanola McCurdy sophomore Ubaldo Barela and senior Andrea Martinez.

On the second team was Griffins’ junior Victor Cruz and Dragons’ junior Carlos Ruvalcaba, as well as Dulce junior Scott Chavez and McCurdy senior Jason Bustos.

On the Honorable Mention list was Monte del Sol sophomore Dillon Montoya and Prep senior Luc Simard-Halm. Also named were McCurdy sophomore Kemmer Croff and Dulce sophomore Tyreek Redwine.

Dulce finished first in district, going undefeated in seven starts. Second at 3-3 was McCurdy, the Griffins went 2-4 and placed third, while fourth place went to Monte del Sol with a 1-5 record. District Coach of the Year was Dulce’s Shane Valdez, whose team also won the district tournament title.

As for the girls, Prep senior Sage Crosby made first team along with Monte del Sol junior Alejandra Castillo. Rounding out the list were Dulce seniors Danesha Gonzales and Brittany Vicenti, and junior Julisa Christie. From McCurdy, there were juniors Karla Santos and Serena Barela.

On the second team were Griffins’ sophomore Bernice Talachy and Monte del Sol senior Brooke Gallegos. Also named were sophomore Lauryn Vigil of Dulce and junior Marissa Sandoval of the Dragons.

The Honorable Mention selections were Prep freshman Susannah Murray and Monte del Sol senior Ariana Rodriguez, along with 8th grader Dashauntee Gonzales of Dulce and junior Alyssa Edmonds of the Dragons.

Here, too, Dulce ( 6-0) won the district regular season, but the district tournament was won by McCurdy (4-2), with Monte del Sol (2-4) third and the Prep (0-6) fourth. Wilbur Callado of Dulce was named district Coach of the Year.
