About Darren

Born in Dixon, New Mexico, Darren Cordova bought his first guitar at the age of 20 years old. Raised in Northern New Mexico, Darren was determined to learn to play guitar and sing at the same time. Darren always had a niche and interest in Spanish music: listening to Vicente Fernandez while his high school classmates listened to AC/DC.

In 1988, Darren Cordova, along with his father and brothers, ventured into the music industry, forming the group “Los Cordova’s”. The group recorded their first recording in 1989 entitled Los Cordova’s “Mala Novia”. Los Cordova’s became a household name throughout the Southwest, performing for private parties and public celebrations.

In 1993, Darren formed “Darren Cordova y Calor” which has become a household name of its own in the Spanish Music scene, winning numerous awards including the New Mexico Hispano Music Awards Association Band of The Year. The first recording under the new name was entitled “Cantinero” an Original Song written by Darren. When asked where he gets inspiration for his music, with a slight nod to the left and a comical tone, he chuckles, “You can’t fool the people! You have to feel what you are singing!”

In 1994 Darren Cordova y Calor released their sophomore CD entitled “Quiero Mas”. This recording included the hit song “Mi Amigo” written by Darren Cordova: also known as “Dos o Tres Tequilas”. Darren recorded this song with the Godfather of New Mexico Music, Al Hurricane. When Darren Cordova y Calor performs the song “Mi Amigo” live you are sure to see the fans sing along word for word.

Darren Cordova Y Calor is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to the groups 13th studio album. Darren constantly shows his appreciation for his fans, never leaving the show until all who wish to receive an autograph, take pictures or meet the band has had the chance to do so. Darren attributes the band’s success to the fans and supporters of the music.
