Road-E-O Competition This Saturday at the Caja del Rio Landfill

The New Mexico SWANA Chapter will hold its 2017 Road-E-O competition at the Caja del Rio Landfill this Saturday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Twenty-four contestants representing public and private waste collection agencies and solid waste facilities throughout New Mexico will be competing for top driving and operating honors in a friendly competition.

During the competition drivers and operators are required to maneuver a collection vehicle or landfill equipment through a pre-set course that will challenge their skills at starting and stopping the vehicle/equipment, negotiating an obstacle course, and backing up the vehicle/equipment while exhibiting general safe driving and operating skills. All vehicle/equipment categories are judged on course accuracy and time. The categories are landfill compactor, bulldozer, front-end loader trash truck and side-loader trash truck.

Participating organizations include the cities of Santa Fe and Gallup, Los Alamos County, North Central Solid Waste Authority, Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency, and Waste Management of New Mexico in Rio Rancho and Valencia County.

The event is sponsored by Friedman Recycling, Wagner Equipment Caterpillar, PSC-Gordon Environmental, CH2M, Waste Management of New Mexico, Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency and Santa Fe Waste Services.

The winners are eligible to compete at the SWANA International Road-E-O this October in Orlando, Florida.

The Caja del Rio Landfill is located at 149 Wildlife Way, next to the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course. Driving directions to the landfill can be found at the Agency’s website at www.SantaFeRecycling.org. For more information, call 424-1850.
