SFCC Governing Board Installs New Member, Elects New Officers

SANTA FE, NM – Santa Fe Community College‘s Governing Board installed new members and elected officers at its regular monthly meeting on April 26. The meeting began with the swearing-in of new member George Gamble, Ph.D., by the Honorable Municipal Court Judge Virginia Vigil.

George Gamble, Position #2, is a cultural anthropologist retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he worked mainly in public health and medical research. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in cultural anthropology at Long Island University in New York and a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the midst of his education, Gamble served in the Peace Corps in Gabon, Africa, where he was a member of a team that built schools and teacher housing in the rural areas of the county. A Santa Fe resident since 2005, Gamble served on the Santa Fe County Health Policy and Planning Board, has tutored in the public schools and has been active in supporting public education. Gamble also is a woodworker who has gained new skills as a student in the college’s Fine Woodworking classes.

The new officers were elected as follows: Linda Siegle, Chair; Martha Romero, Ph.D., Vice Chair; and Jack Sullivan, Secretary; Kathy Keith Member; and George Gamble, Ph.D., Member.

The five members of the board are locally elected residents who support the college’s mission to empower students and strengthen community and work to advance the best interests of SFCC students, employees and the community. The board sets policy and provides overall guidance to the college. The board’s five members serve six-year terms. All positions are at large.

Regular board meetings are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room, West Wing Room 223. The meetings are open to the public.
