The St. Michael’s track and field team gained a split Monday, splitting up the squad and taking boy’s team honors at the Moriarty Pinto Invite, and sending the rest of the team to the Santa Fe Indian School Invite.

The school had the Moriarty meet scheduled for this past Friday, but the inclement weather postponed it. But head coach Joey Fernandez didn’t forget the Indian School meet that he also entered. His girls settled for second at the Pinto behind host Moriarty with 112.5, and the boys won with 126.

At Indian School, the Santa Fe High girls finished on top with 142 points, way ahead of the 58 scored by the host Braves. The boy’s title went to Espanola Valley with 118 points, and again SFIS placed second with 88.

But at least the weather was good as Indian School, St. Michael’s, Santa Fe High, Las Vegas Robertson, Espanola Valley, Albuquerque Bosque School, Los Lunas and Valencia prepared for their weekend 4A-6A districts, with the state championships the following weekend at UNM.

. . . At Moriarty, St. Michael’s Alcaraz brothers, senior Esteban and sophomore Sebastian, each won an event, Esteban the 300 intermediate hurdles in 41:76, and Sebastian the 400 meters in 54:89.

. . . At Indian School, Braves’ senior Michael Tenorio ran in competition for the first time in about a month and turned in a 4:54.60 to win the 1,600, with his final 200 meters kick leaving second place Espanola junior Daylon Garcia behind in 4:58.17.

Senior Marc Riley won both the 110 (17:66) and 300 hurdles (45:17), and the SFIS winning the 1,600 sprint medley in 3:56.76 with senior Alec Lee, junior Matt Morgan, sophomore Tarrell Toledo and Tenorio on the anchor 800 leg. Robertson won the other three relays.
