Impersonators claim to be with PNM to gain access inside homes

People knocking on doors offering free energy saving products to get customers to open doors

Today, PNM received reports that people are claiming to be with PNM or the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority in order to gain access to customer homes.  These people may be offering free light bulbs and showerheads in an attempt to look like legitimate representatives. PNM has received reports of this activity in Albuquerque, Belen, and Rio Rancho.

PNM is not currently conducting door-to-door outreach offering any kind of energy efficiency programs or services in any of these areas.  When we do, PNM employees are easily identifiable with badges and PNM shirts. Some also drive PNM-marked vehicles.

This serves as a good reminder to never allow a stranger inside your home unless you have invited them in or an advanced appointment was made with us. If someone claims to be with PNM and is trying to gain access to the home, customers are encouraged to call us at 1-888-DIAL-PNM or to contact local law enforcement.
