Love and Heat can be a Dangerous Combination in a Car

Remember to Care and Take Care this Summer

Date: JUNE 17th 2017

When: 1-4 PM

Where: Walmart (5701 Herrera Drive)

(Santa Fe, NM) – Temperatures are heating up… On average, SFPD responds to more than 200 calls for service for animals being left in vehicles. This of course doesn’t include the unthinkable of children being left in overheated vehicles.

The Santa Fe area Public Safety community – City and County Police, City and County Fire, City & County Animal Control are coming together for a public awareness event of the dangers involved with leaving children and animals unattended in vehicles.

With the help of Capitol Ford, vehicles will be available for individuals who would like to see and feel just how long it takes to heat up to the point passengers become uncomfortable. Just imagine being a child, and NOT being able to get out to cool down. We will have information on calls for service on small children and animals left inside vehicles, and a Veterinarian will also be on hand to discuss what happens to small pets left inside hot vehicles.

The purpose of this Public Safety Event is to educate and make everyone aware of the dangers of leaving their own child or small animals in a vehicle during the upcoming summer months.

We will also provide the following information and statistical data:

Fire Stats
Animal Services Stats
Medical Stats
Animal Protection of New Mexico
Project Homeless Animal-Karen Caine

Please Contact: Lieutenant Marvin Paulk for more information or questions about child and animal safety at 505-955-5032 or mlpaulk@santfenm.gov
