¡Bienvenidos al Mercado en Santa Fe, New Mexico!
The Spanish Colonial Art of New Mexico features authentic artistic traditions which can be traced directly back over 400 years. Skilled artists and craftspeople create these breathtaking expressions of a living tradition, and many of them count their art as their only source of income. Styles and quality are very different and far more exacting in terms of traditional accuracy and finish than tourist pieces commonly sold elsewhere. All Adult Market artists are juried into the Market and the youth are mentored by current Market artists in their categories.
Approximately 250 Spanish Colonial Artists from New Mexico and Southern Colorado will take part in this enchanting event, bringing to downtown Santa Fe a critical mass of exponents of woodcarving, tinwork, colcha, hide painting, retablos, straw appliqué, furniture and furnishings, weaving, jewelry, filigree, pottery and ironwork.
¡Viva La Cultura! is a week of truly immersive experiences around Santa Fe, offers lecture series, tours, music, culinary events, movies and more through cooperative activities with other Santa Fe organizations culminating with the Spanish Market, July 29-30, 2017.

2017 Spanish Market Artists’ Reception
Elks Lodge
1615 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, NM 87501
5:30PM – 7:30PM
While approximately 250 artists participate in the Spanish Market each year, only 25 will be honored at the Artists’ Reception. One piece of art from each artist will be featured at the event, some of which will be available for sale. In past years, reception attendees have taken this opportunity to purchase unique art before it becomes available to the Spanish Market crowds!
Participation in Santa Fe’s Spanish Market is a juried process and accepted artists must show that they have Spanish lineage from New Mexico or Southern Colorado. Art must be created with traditional methods and processes, including traditional pigments. Many of the artists who participate rely on sales from the Spanish Market to make a living, while some participate to keep the traditions of their culture alive. For some, it is an enjoyable hobby and for others, it is a vocation in the truest sense of the word.
Attendees at the Spanish Market Artists Reception and honored artists will sample hors d’oeuvres while sipping fine wines or enjoying drinks from the cash bar. Entertainment will be provided by Flamenco guitarist Isaiah Martinez and Mariachi Encantado.
