Catches of the week

• Charette Lakes: Cody Jaramillo, 13, of Las Vegas, caught a 16-inch rainbow trout June 27. He was using a Pistol Pete.
• Cochiti Lake: Derrick Sandoval of Santa Fe caught a 5.5-pound and a 3.5-pound walleye and an 8-pound, 9-ounce carp July 2. He caught the walleye on swim baits and the carp on a crank bait.
• Elephant Butte Lake: Jace Bonner, 5, of Elk City, Okla., caught a 26-inch, 4.75-pound walleye June 30. He was fishing by the island in Rock Canyon and using a shiner minnow.
• Fenton Lake: Chase Tyler, 12, of Rio Rancho, caught a 19-inch cutthroat trout June 30. He was using a neon green lure.
• Heron Lake:  Michael Pena, 7, of Belen, caught a nice rainbow trout June 26. He was trolling a yellow Panther Martin.
• Lake Maloya: Tom Garcia of Raton caught an 8-pound rainbow trout June 26.  He was using a gold spoon. Adrian Valdez of Raton caught a 25-inch, 6-pound rainbow trout June 27. He was using a gold Kastmaster.
• Pecos River: Hailey Cde Vaca 8, of Santa Fe, caught her limit of rainbow trout July 2. She was fishing just above the Mora Campground and using salmon eggs.
• Percha Dam:  Pablo Herrera of Dona Ana caught a 29-inch buffalo carp that weighed between 8 and 10 pounds July 1. He was using worms.
• Rancho Grande Ponds: Kameron Ward, 3, of Reserve, caught a big bluegill June 26. He was using worms.
• Red River: Eric Marta of El Paso, Texas caught a 4-pound rainbow trout June 26 and a 5-pound rainbow trout June 27. He was fishing the river in town and using spinners.
• Rio Grande: Geary Radcliffe caught a 20-inch channel catfish June 30. He was fishing where the Old Buckman Road stops at the Rio and was using chicken liver.
• Seven Springs Brood Pond: Brandon Romero, 11, of Rio Rancho, caught a 16-inch rainbow trout and two 10-inch rainbow trout June 30. He was using salmon eggs.
• Tingley Beach: Aaron Montano of Albuquerque caught a 25-inch channel catfish June 30. He was using Velveeta cheese.

• Eagle Nest Lake: Dean Michael Chavez, 10, of Santo Domingo Pueblo, caught a 32-inch northern pike June 25. He was using a 4-inch brass spoon.
• Fenton Lake: Steven Fernandez of Albuquerque caught a 25-inch rainbow trout June 25. He was using an olive wooly bugger.
• Lake Maloya: Leon Romero, 8, of Raton caught a 22-inch rainbow trout June 25. He was using a Colorado spinner.
• Monastery Lake: Mariah Velasquez, 7, of Cordova, caught her very first trout June 17. She was using PowerBait.
• Pecos River: Carmen Garcia of Pecos caught her very first fish June 23. She was fishing the river near the town of Pecos and using a Panther Martin.
• Seven Springs Brood Pond: Keller Ford, 8, of Socorro, caught his first trout June 23. He was using a Pistol Pete under a bubble.

Northeast

Charette Lakes: Fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. Fishing was fair using worms for perch.

Clayton Lake: Fishing was fair using PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout. We had no other reports. Fishing pressure was light. Due to low water conditions, the boat ramp remains closed.

Cimarron River: Stream flow below Eagle Nest on Monday was 6.28 cfs. Trout fishing was good using bead-head hares ear nymphs, elk hair caddis, PMDs, stimulators, Cimarron specials, worms, salmon eggs, PowerBait and spinners. Fishing at the Gravel Pit Lakes was good using Pistol Petes, orange stimulators, bead-head hares ears, salmon peach and garlic scented PowerBait, salmon eggs and worms for trout up to 20 inches.

Conchas Lake: Fishing was fair using Pop Rs, stick baits, plastic worms, senkos, crawdads, curly tail grubs, swim baits and jerk baits for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Fishing for white bass and walleye was slow but a few were caught by anglers using tubes, leeches, minnows, grubs and crank baits. Fishing was good using shrimp, liver, cut bait and homemade dough bait for catfish. We had no other reports.

Costilla Creek: Stream flow on Monday below Costilla Dam was 61.4cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Cowles Ponds: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes and spinners for trout.

Coyote Creek: Trout fishing was fair to good using elk hair caddis, copper John Barrs, worms and salmon eggs.

Eagle Rock Lake: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Pistol Petes, Super Dupers and Kastmasters for trout.

Eagle Nest Lake: Fishing for trout was very good fishing from the bank and from anchored boats for anglers using PowerBait. Anglers trolling Platte River specials tipped with PowerBait also did very well catching trout and a few kokanee salmon. Fishing was very good using worms for perch. Fishing was fair using spoons, swim baits and large streamers for small northern pike. We had no other reports.

Gallinas River: Fishing was good using worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Hopewell Lake: Fishing was good using elk hair caddis, copper John Barrs, PowerBait, Kastmasters and Fire Balls for trout. KIko Rascon of Taos caught an 18-inch cutthroat trout July 1. He was using a fly under a bubble.

Lake Alice: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Maloya: Trout fishing was very good using Pistol Petes, Colorado spoons, Kastmasters, wooly buggers and PowerBait. Several fish in the 6 to 8-pound class were caught this past week. The best reports are coming from anglers   fishing the evening hours.

Los Pinos River: Fishing was good using with bead-head pheasant tail nymphs, copper John Barrs, salmon eggs and worms for rainbow and brown trout.

Maxwell Lake 13: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Monastery Lake: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, PowerBait and Silver Label salmon eggs for trout.

Morphy Lake: Fishing was good using Pistol Petes, wooly buggers, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Pecos River: Streamflow near Pecos on Monday was 62.9 cfs. Fishing was good using Fire Bait and Fire Balls, PowerBait, San Juan worms, prince nymphs, stone flies, elk hair caddis and Panther Martins.

Red River: Stream flow below the hatchery on Monday was 129 cfs. Fishing was very good using Mepps and Panther Martin spinners, Silver Label Fire Balls, PowerBait, night crawlers, spinners, copper John Barrs and wooly buggers for trout. The best action was reported by anglers fishing in town.

Red River City Ponds: Kids Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week. Adult pond is closed.

Rio Grande: Stream flow on Monday at the Taos Junction Bridge was 636 cfs. Fishing was good using poundmeisters, wooly buggers, San Juan worms, Mepps and Panther Martin spinners and night crawlers. Tom Chrobocinski of Ojo Caliente caught and released several brown and rainbow trout including one 18-inch rainbow. He was using a brown Mepps spinner. We had no other reports. Fishing was good using chicken liver and blood baits for catfish. We had no other reports.

Rio Hondo: Stream flow near Valdez on Monday was 78.5 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rio Mora: As of Monday, stream flow near Terrero was 17.8 cfs. Fishing was good using night crawlers and Fire Balls for trout.

Rio Pueblo: Stream flow near Penasco on Monday was 23.3 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Barbara River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Cruz Reservoir: Fishing was good using gold and copper spoons, Fisher Chick spinners, PowerBait and Fire Balls for trout. We had no other reports.

Shuree Ponds: Opened for the season July 1.

Springer Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Storrie Lake: Fishing was fair to good using salmon eggs and garlic and salmon peach PowerBait for trout. Fishing for all other species was slow.

Stubblefield Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Ute Lake: Fishing for smallmouth bass was fair to good using a wide assortment of plastics including worms senkos, tubes, salt craws and finesse worms. Fishing for bluegill was very good using small grubs and worms under a bobber. Fishing was good using chicken liver, cut bait, night crawlers and stink bait for catfish. Fishing for all other species was slow. The surface water temp was in the mid 70s.

Winsor Creek: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Northwest

Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was good using curly tail grubs, spinners, wooly buggers, tubes, jerk baits, crank baits, wooly buggers, crawdad imitation flies and night crawlers for smallmouth bass. Fishing for walleye was fair for anglers using leeches, spinners, curly tail grubs and crank baits. Most of the walleye caught were at depths of 8 to 15 feet. Fishing was slow to fair using worms for perch. Fishing for trout was slow but there were a few caught by anglers using Kastmasters, PowerBait, Fire Bait and Fire Balls. We had no other reports.

Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 1,120 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Albuquerque Area Drains:  We had no reports from anglers this week.

Bluewater Lake:  Fishing was slow to fair using jerk baits, swim baits and deep diving crank baits for tiger muskies up to 31 inches. Fishing for catfish and trout was slow.

Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Canjilon Lakes: Closed by the U.S. Forest Service until further notice due to danger from falling trees. They are not expected to open in 2017.

Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 598 cfs and 602 cfs respectively. Trout fishing above El Vado was good using Chernobyl ants, wooly buggers, hoppers and spoons. Fishing below El Vado was good using Berkley Power Worms, wooly buggers, prince nymphs, pheasant tail nymphs, night crawlers and PowerBait for rainbow and brown trout. Trout fishing below Abiquiu was slow. New Special Trout Water: The river from the USGS gauging station to the confluence of the Rio Nutrias is now catch and release only using single barbless hook artificial flies and lures.

Cochiti Lake: Fishing was fair using crank baits, jerk baits, creature baits. tubes and jigs for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was fair using spinners, swim baits and crank baits for walleye and white bass. Fishing was fair using shrimp, hot dogs and chicken liver for catfish. A few carp were caught by anglers using corn and crank baits. James Brunner of Santa Fe caught a nice 19-inch smallmouth bass last week. He was using a Strike King KVD 1.5 green gizzard shad. We had no other reports.

El Vado Lake: Fishing was good trolling with Panther Martins and double whammies for a mixed bag of kokanee salmon and rainbow trout. Anglers fishing at the northeast corner of the dam reported catching several rainbow and brown trout. They were using PowerBait, Fire Balls and a variety of spinners. Fishing was good using Rooster Tails, curly tail grubs and worms for smallmouth bass. The best bass action was reported at the north end of the lake.

Fenton Lake: Fishing slowed considerably with the heat this past weekend. A few trout were caught by anglers using PowerBait, caddis imitations, parachute Adams, wooly buggers and Pistol Petes.

Heron Lake: Fishing for rainbow trout picked up this past week as anglers did well fishing in the Rincon primitive camping area of the lake. They were trolling Panther Martins and double whammies at depths of 10 feet or less. Anglers trolling also picked up a few kokanee salmon. Bank fishing was still a bit sporadic for anglers using PowerBait and salmon eggs. We had no other reports.

Jackson Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez River near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 15 cfs. The heat continues to have a major effect on the stream fishing here this past week. We had reports of slow fishing on the Jemez, Rio Guadalupe, East Fork and the San Antonio. There were a few browns caught on the East Fork by anglers using copper John Barrs and elk hair caddis. Fishing on the Cebolla was slow to fair using elk hair caddis, copper John Barrs, worms and salmon eggs for trout.

Laguna del Campo: Fishing was fair to good using Pistol Petes under a bubble, PowerBait and salmon eggs for trout.

Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Manzano Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Navajo Lake: Fishing was fair to good using minnows and small jigs for crappie. Fishing was good using Ricos, Whopper Ploppers, Pop Rs, finesse worms on drop shot rigs, jerk baits, wooly buggers and spinners for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using jigs, swim baits, minnows, jerk baits and crank baits for northern pike. Fishing was fair to good trolling kokanee killers, double whammies, Panther Martins and Arnies tipped with PowerBait for kokanee salmon. We had no other reports.

San Gregorio Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. The lake was recently stocked. Check it out and let us know how you do.

San Juan River: Stream flow from Navajo Reservoir on Monday was 1,720 cfs. The flow will continue to ramp down to an expected 500 cfs on July 5. Trout fishing was good using San Juan worms, pink and cream egg patterns, chamois leeches, wooly buggers, red and orange annelids, RS2s and small jigs. Best action in the bait waters was for anglers using night crawlers, small spoons and jerk baits.

Seven Springs Brood Pond: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls, Panther Martin spinners, Pistol Petes, salmon eggs and meal worms.

Tingley Beach: Fishing was good using hot dogs, Velveeta cheese, night crawlers and beef liver for catfish. Fishing for bluegill was slow with just a few caught by anglers using worms. We had no other reports.

Trout Lakes: Fishing was good using PowerBait, Fire Balls and spinners for trout.

Southwest

Alumni Pond: Fishing was fair to good using liver, night crawlers and hot dogs for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bear Canyon Lake: Fishing was fair to good using homemade beef liver bait, night crawlers and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bill Evans Lake: Fishing was slow with just a few catfish caught by anglers using liver and night crawlers.

Caballo Lake: Night fishing was fair using cut bait, chicken liver and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.

Elephant Butte Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using crank baits, spinners, jerk baits, minnows and grubs for white bass. Fishing was slow to fair using crankbaits and minnows for walleye. Fishing was slow to fair using buzz baits, Ricos, creature baits, crank baits, senkos, jerk baits and tubes for largemouth bass and smallmouth bass. Night fishing was good using cut bait, dead minnows and chicken liver for catfish. We had no other reports.

Escondida Lake: Fishing was fair using worms for bluegill. Fishing was good using cut bait, liver, cheese, hot dogs and shrimp for catfish.

Gila River: Stream flow on Monday morning was 18.7 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Glenwood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Lake Roberts: Fishing was fair using worms, baby brush hogs, crank baits and top water lures for largemouth bass. Fishing was slow to fair using Fire Balls, worms and PowerBait for trout. Fishing was fair using homemade dough bait, beef liver, shrimp and night crawlers for catfish.

Percha Dam: Fishing was good using worms and cut bait for catfish and white bass. A few white bass were also caught by anglers using grubs.

Quemado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Rancho Grande Ponds: The United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots is sponsoring a Catfish Fishing Derby 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 4, with prizes awarded to adults and children. For more detailed information, contact the Toys for Tots coordinator, Amanda Landrum at (575) 590-2307. Fishing for bluegill was fair to good for anglers using worms. We had no other reports.

Rio Grande: Stream flow below Elephant Butte Monday morning was 2,380 cfs. Fishing below Elephant Butte and Caballo and at the Mesilla Valley Dam was fair to good using night crawlers, beef liver, chicken liver, grubs and cut bait for catfish. Fishing was fair to good using black and olive grubs on jig heads, minnows and spinners for white bass. We had no other reports.

Snow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Young Pond: Fishing was fair to good using stink bait, homemade dough bait,

Southeast

Alto Lake: Fishing was fair using night crawlers, shrimp and PowerBait for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bataan Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Black River: Stream flow at Malaga on Monday was 1.13 cfs. Fishing was slow for all species.

Blue Hole Park Pond: Fishing was fair to good using liver, homemade dough bait and night crawlers for catfish.

Bonito Lake: Closed until further notice by the city of Alamogordo due to fire damage.

Bosque Redondo Lake: Fishing was fair using chicken liver, blood bait, night crawlers and shrimp for catfish. We had no other reports.

Bottomless Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Brantley Lake: Anglers are required to catch and release all fish here as high levels of pesticides have been found in some fish. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Carlsbad Municipal Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Chaparral Park Lake: Fishing was fair to good using chicken liver, hot dogs and worms for catfish. We had no other reports.

El Rito Creek: Fishing was good using PowerBait, salmon eggs, Zeke’s floating trout bait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.

Eunice Lake: Fishing was fair to good using night crawlers, hot dogs and homemade dough bait for catfish.

Green Meadow Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Greene Acres Lake: Fishing was fair using garlic cheese, chicken liver and hot dogs for catfish. We had no other reports.

Grindstone Reservoir: Fishing was fair using worms for bluegill. Fishing was fair using shrimp, hot dogs and crawdads for catfish. Fishing was fair using PowerBait and worms for trout. We had no other reports.

Jal Lake: Fishing was good using night crawlers and hot dogs for catfish. We had no other reports.

Lake Van: We had no reports from anglers this week.

Oasis Park Lake: Fishing was fair to good using blood baits, homemade dough baits and liver for catfish. Fishing was slow to fair using night crawlers and spinners for largemouth bass. We had no other reports.

Pecos River: Stream flow below Sumner Lake on Monday was 1,570 cfs. We had no reports from anglers.

Perch Lake: Fishing was very good using worms, homemade dough bait and hot dogs. We had no other reports.

Ruidoso River: Stream flow at Hollywood on Monday was 6.14 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.

Santa Rosa Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using jigs, jerk baits, crank baits and tubes for largemouth bass. We had no reports on other species.  A water release began June 16 and was expected to run for 15 days.

Sumner Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week. A water release began June 19 and was expected to run for 15 days.
