(SANTA FE, NM) –Our nation’s Purple Heart Award recipients will be honored at a special Purple Heart Recognition Ceremony in Santa Fe on Saturday, August 26.

Purple Heart recipients, their family members, friends, and the public are invited to attend the 10 a.m. ceremony at the Santa Fe Veterans Memorial, located at 407 Galisteo Street (on the northeast corner of the Bataan Memorial Building).

The Purple Heart Award is our nation’s oldest combat decoration. It is presented to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy. It is also awarded posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in combat.

The ceremony is presented by the New Mexico Department of Veterans Services, the New Mexico National Guard, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, and the City of Santa Fe to thank recipients for their sacrifice in service of our country.

Free parking will be available in the South Capitol Parking Garage located just south of the Bataan Memorial Building near the intersection of Galisteo and Manhattan Streets, and in the gravel parking lot on South Capitol Avenue between the parking garage and the Bataan Memorial Building.
